MOUNTLAKE TERRACE, WASHINGTON: Symetrix, a leading provider of signal processing for the broadcast industry, announced it has begun shipping the AirTools 6200 Digital Voice Processor in quantity.
This new product is intended for on-air and production processing of microphones and line-level
signals in radio and television.
The AirTools 6200 is the result of the years of experience Symetrix has with
voice processing. It marries that experience with expertise in both digital
technology and digital audio design to produce a product capable of complete
processing of microphone or line-level audio.
The unit is fully programmable and controllable in real-time from its front
panel, or from an included Windows" software application called 6200
Designer. Communication is handled over USB, Ethernet, or serial (RS-232 or
RS-485). Each unit is individually addressable over IP and can be configured
for a facility's existing LAN for network control.
Programmability helps stations save money by removing the need to dedicate
a
specific processing unit for each voice personality on their roster.
Programs that compliment each voice can be called up when that person goes
on the air, simplifying the signal routing, saving rack space, and
definitely saving money.
"Today's chief engineers are juggling so many stations, studios, and
projects, it's difficult to keep up with everything" commented Jim Latimer,
director of sales for Symetrix and AirTools. "One of the most crucial things
in radio is the sound of the microphones. The AirTools 6200 offers engineers
the ability to tweak on-air microphones and control any number of networked
processors without leaving their desks. Extending their reach into many
studios at once will make their jobs a little easier."
Onboard processing modules include symmetry; high pass filter; de-esser;
four-band parametric EQ; shelving filter that can be set to either high or
low shelf; dynamics module including downward expander for gating and
compression with AGC mode; and a low pass filter. The order of these modules
can easily be changed. All parameter settings can be saved to any of 256
program locations. These locations are equally allocated between mono and
stereo programs.
The 6200 Designer application supports an on-board Event Manager, which
allows the unit to maintain its own day part schedule independent of the
station's automation package. Time reference is synchronized to TC89, TC90,
Network Time Polling or the 6200's internal real-time clock. Programs can be
set to change on a daily or weekly basis.
AirTools 6200 VOICE PROCESSOR
The AirTools 6200 includes dual AES/EBU outputs along with the balanced analog
rear panel outputs. Microphones can be independently assigned to either or both
digital outputs, eliminating the need for splitters when connecting to digital
consoles. Digital input is accomplished using HomerLink, a proprietary protocol
for transferring AES audio over CAT5. The rear panel HomerLink port also makes
the 6200 compatible with the Iliad, a member of the AirTools Studio Matrix family
of audio DSP.
Other features include extremely low latency audio converters, phantom
power, a selectable analog input clip limiter, and a security scheme that
can keep unauthorized fingers out of program parameters. "We've listened
to
many engineers over the fifteen or so years that we've been making voice
processors" adds Latimer, "and we think we're giving them what they've
been
looking for. Great sound has to come first, after that operability and
reliability must go hand in hand. Security and network control are the new
wrinkles for the new millennium."
Manufacturer's suggested retail price for the 6200 is $1,749.
