Making Music In Ibiza

Hello Cristopher

I'm Juan from Ibiza ( Balearic Islands, Spain ), and by mistake I pressed the wrong button at your web... sorry. Anyway I'm looking for as much info as I can get from the internet about recording techniques, compression, mixing, mastering, plug-ins, software, etc. Here in this small island is very difficult to find someone who can give advice about this huge universe of music.

IŽve just purchased a 16 track digital recorder, the "Yamaha AW16 G", a couple of "good-cheap" mics ( SM-57, SM-58, D-112, C1000 S ), a mic preamp of Behringer and a compressor-limiter-gate of Alesis. The thing is that last year I went into a pro studio in Palma de Mallorca with my band "Peter Colours" to record our first album http://www.petercolours.com and the result was a waste of quite a big amount of money, poor sound that was promised to be the opposite as we recorded into analogic tape ( these things about the "warmth" and so and bla, bla, bla ... ), and finally I found myself mixing the entire album back at home with a Sound Blaster AWE 64 when I'm a complete rookie in this subject, as the people at the recording studio washed their hands of mixing properly.

As you can imagine, we are now going to do all the work ourselves, or at least try to do so.

Well, I think we have nearly all we need, like serious software: "Nuendo", "Sonar", "Sound Forge", lots of great plug-ins of Waves, Hyperprism, Steinberg, TC Native, DSP, Canam, Sonic Foundry, etc..., mastering software like T-Racks, L1, and a very good noiseless RME DIGI9652 "Hammerfall" Soundcard to achieve the sound we are looking for.

So thanx a lot Cristopher for your quick answer and weŽd be very glad to receive tips if possible. All help is valuable.

The best

Juan
