Art Institute of California-San Diego President Appointed

Education Management Corporation (EDMC), one of the largest providers of private post-secondary education in North America, today announced the appointment of Daniel A. Levinson to the position of southwestern group vice president.

Levinson previously was president of The Art Institute of California-San Diego, one of 31 schools in The Art Institutes system of creative and culinary arts schools owned by EDMC. Levinson will now oversee operations of 11 EDMC schools in California, Arizona, and Nevada, including six Art Institute schools, two Argosy University campuses, and three Brown-Mackie College schools.

"Dan's success in rapidly doubling the enrollment at The Art Institute of California-San Diego is among the many testaments to his effectiveness as a leader in the post-secondary education industry," said John R. McKernan, Jr., EDMC's Chief Executive Officer. "We are confident in Dan's ability to lead our executive teams in a region that has experienced significant growth in recent years and one that is poised to continue this growth trend in the years to come."

The Art Institute of California-San Diego recently announced that its student enrollment has more than doubled over the past two years. The school completed its fall 2004 quarter with an enrollment of 1,709, up 113% over the 801 students enrolled at the completion of the 2002 fall quarter. Among the factors cited by Levinson as driving this growth is the ever increasing need in San Diego for career-focused education in the creative arts, the addition of several new bachelor's degree programs, the addition and retention of top- quality faculty instructors who remain connected to their respective industries, and the school's relocation to a significantly larger building in Mission Valley.

Levinson has more than 15 years in private, post-secondary education. Prior to The Art Institute of California-San Diego, Levinson was dean of academic affairs at The Art Institute of Phoenix and held academic department director and faculty positions at The Art Institute of Philadelphia. Levinson joined The Art Institutes as an audio instructor after a diverse and notable professional music career, including owning and operating a New Jersey-based recording studio and being a staff keyboardist and pianist in the main showrooms at the Tropicana and Atlantis casinos in Atlantic City.
