Delaware State University (DSU) has chosen Sessions.edu Online School of Design (Sessions) as its strategic partner to assist in expanding its distance education initiative.
The initiative includes strategy development, online curriculum development and migration, infrastructure design and marketing. Distance education is considered a critical component of DSU’s strategy to attract and retain students across multiple academic programs, as well as a global audience of students and university partners. "I suppose we could have chosen one of the major learning management system vendors to help guide our strategy, but we are not interested in having
technology be the controlling force in our distance education decisions," stated Dr. Allen Sessoms, DSU’s President.
"We want the global expansion of our curricula, as well as the needs of our local students, to be driven by quality educational content, the involvement of our current faculty, and a dogged focus on the student experience," said Sessoms. "Sessions - with its well-established and well-regarded online
school of design - has the track record we sought in both vision and execution. They made the decision easy."
DSU is aggressively pursuing a worldwide presence. In addition to formal partnerships with France, Mexico, Namibia, Senegal and Panama, DSU has recently signed partnership agreements with institutions of higher education in the Republic of China, Bangladesh and Serbia . The partnerships are facilitated through the DSU Office of International Affairs, led by Dr. John L. Graham, assistant vice president.
Sessions will be challenged to strengthen these international partnerships
with online faculty training, virtual student exchanges, and curriculum conversions
and sharing.
"DSU is one of the most forward thinking public universities we’ve
encountered," stated Doris Granatowski, Sessions CEO. "We are delighted
to work with a public university that is committed to lead in distance education,
rather than to follow.
Our program (Reach More Students - Teach More Students) is available to select
colleges, universities, and corporations who seek to enter or expand their presence
in the growing and competitive world of distance education. Our student-centered
education strategies are a perfect fit with DSU’s global growth objectives."

About Delaware State University (www.dsc.edu)
The State College for Colored Students, now known as Delaware State University,
was established in 1891 by the Delaware General Assembly under the provisions
of the Morrill Act of 1890 by which land-grant colleges for Blacks came into
existence in states maintaining separate educational facilities. Its mission
of education and public service was launched in 1892 with its first class of
degree candidates in 1898.
The University has grown in stature as a center for teaching, research, and
public service. The purpose and object of the University have broadened in keeping
with changing times. While recognizing its historical heritage, the University
provides higher education today for a diverse student population. Undergraduate
studies are organized into three undergraduate schools and a college of arts
& sciences with a total of 19 academic departments. The Division of Graduate
Studies offers programs leading to the master’s degree in biology, business
administration, chemistry, education, physics, social work, and historic preservation.
A new Ph.D program in Interdisciplinary Applied Mathematics and Mathematical
Physics was introduced in 2004.
