At the 2004 International Consumer Electronics Show, DTS (Digital Theater Systems, Inc.) (Nasdaq: DTSI) will host a surround sound demo room featuring some of the best examples of recently released DTS-encoded content. Exhibiting at the Las Vegas Convention Center, North Hall Meeting Room #N243 January 8-11, DTS will highlight all of its consumer technologies, including an enhanced version of DTS Neo:6, DTS-ES, DTS 96/24 and DTS Interactive applications for the consumer electronics and entertainment industries. DTS will also be giving away copies of its brand new DVD-V demo disc #8, which will be available for the first time at the show.
The hosted demonstration will feature movie clips from recently released DVDs, as well as surround music clips from DTS Entertainment DVD-Audio titles that show off core DTS multi-channel sound technologies:
DTS Neo:6 – Provides up to six channels of matrix decoding from stereo matrix material and decodes Extended Surround content; the newest version of Neo:6 is also compatible with 96kHz content.
DTS-ES – The only digital audio format capable of delivering 6.1 channels of discrete audio in the consumer electronics market. DTS-ES content is also fully backwards-compatible with DTS decoders that are not Extended Surround-equipped.
DTS 96/24 – Offers an unprecedented level of audio quality for multi-channel sound on DVD-Video. DTS 96/24 is fully backwards-compatible to all DTS decoders.
DTS Interactive – The only solution for delivering up to 5.1 discrete channels of surround sound during real-time game-play for the PlayStationŇ2.
In order to alleviate long lines at the DTS room at CES, DTS will issue time-stamped tickets to show-goers interested in attending the DTS demo. Attendees can simply pick up a ticket at the DTS room, and then return just prior to the assigned demo time. Visitors to the LVCC meeting room who attend the demo will also receive DTS’ demo DVD-V #8, which includes DTS 5.1- and 6.1-channel clips from Pirates Of The Caribbean, Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers, X-Men 2, Daredevil, Gangs Of New York, Chicago, Casper, Heart (music video), and Medeski Martin & Wood (music video.)
DTS will also have a presence beyond the demo room at CES. A sponsor of the Audio Café at CES (LVCC Silver Exhibits, Booth # 71428), DTS will be the exclusive content provider at this coffee lounge which lets attendees relax while experiencing the power of surround sound. Acura will also feature a model of the new 2004 Acura TL (LVCC Silver Exhibits), which has the first OEM DTS-capable sound system in the U.S.
"The DTS demo room is always a popular destination for CES attendees, and we believe that experiencing DTS sound in an optimal environment is the best way to tell our story," said Brian Caldwell, Director of Marketing, Consumer Division at DTS. "Every year, CES presents us with an opportunity to continue to educate the industry on the latest applications of DTS surround sound technologies and how DTS sound enhances many forms of entertainment, including movies, music and games."
