TC Electronic Announces New Multichannel Dynamics Processor for System 6000

Risskov, Denmark – October 7, 2005 – For the benefit of System 6000 users, TC Electronic announces the MDX5.1 multichannel dynamics processor.

Through advanced multiband and multichannel DXP processing, MDX5.1 is capable of lifting low level details, but without boosting everything and hammering the transients. MDX5.1 is available free of charge to all System 6000 users with an MD5.1 license. MD5.1 comes with Mastering 6000, and is optional for Reverb 6000 at EUR 2450 retail ex. VAT. MDX5.1 will be available end of October 2005.

Committed to film and music content as well as audio quality in general, TC researchers have studied distortion for years, and recently came up with improved solutions for digital dynamic range restriction. The world's best film and mastering studios have cherished the MD4 and Brickwall 2 stereo processors, recently released for the System 6000, and asked for similar possibilities to cater for multichannel signals. Now it is possible to produce audio without the presence of listening fatigue the moment it hits a data reduction codec, or a consumer playback device.

Extensive channel-linking features are included in the MDX5.1, and the detail lift may even be added differently to different channels. For instance, in order to avoid speech intelligibility getting sacrificed when converting film from cinema to broadcast or domestic listening conditions, the detail lift to the Center signal can be different from that of the lateral speakers. Alternatively the discrimination feature can be used to only spectrally amplify the surround ambience in a 5.1 concert at low levels, so the result doesn't get all muddy. MDX5.1 employs phase linear split and combination filters with 48 bit processing throughout. Two processors may be used in parallel to process, for instance, 10.2 signals.

Program Manager at TC Electronic, Thomas Lund, says: “Digital audio processors are used to maximize level on new CD releases, but they also generate more and more distortion. With the availability of the MDX5.1 multichannel dynamics processor, TC Electronic offers audio professionals a serious tool that prevents distortion and listening fatigue for the end listener.”

TC Electronic A/S is a world-leading manufacturer/distributor of audio signal processing hardware and software. Renown for innovative solutions as much as superior quality, the company's wide product range is used for recording, live sound, post production and broadcast applications.
