Comprehensive Dial-up Modem Product Portfolio Encompasses Solutions that Support Major Industry Standards and Bus Architectures
Conexant Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:CNXT), a worldwide leader in semiconductor system solutions for digital information and home entertainment networks, today introduced the industry's first dial-up modem chip with support for Intel's High Definition Audio (HD Audio) bus architecture audio standard. The CX11254 is the first in a family of planned products. It uses the HD Audio bus (formerly know by the code name "Azalia") to transmit data between an internal narrowband modem and notebook and desktop computers. It is shipping in sample quantities to customers now.

HD Audio is an end-to-end audio specification that defines the controller, link and board implementation of audio and modem hardware, both of which are required and operate on the same bus. It enables high-quality, home theater-like sound on multimedia/Media Center PCs.

Bus architectures supported include the new HD Audio bus, peripheral component interconnect (PCI) bus, universal serial bus (USB), RS-232, and audio/modem chipsets that support AC-Link.
The CX11254 supports V.92/V.90 analog receive data up to 56 kilobits per second (kbps) with V.44 data compression, V.17 analog fax to 14.4 kbps, voice/telephone answering machine, and is compliant with Azalia specification.
Pricing and Availability
The CX11254 is sampling now, with volume production scheduled for the second quarter of 2004. It is packaged in a 16-pin thin shrink small outline package (TSSOP) and priced at $4.00 in quantities of 10,000.
