Veteran Engineers Turn to TC Electronic Processing for Academy Awards

Once again this year TC Electronic processors were integral to audio production for both the pre-show telecast and the main broadcast of the 79th Academy Awards. These broadcasts utilized mobile facilities provided by Pittsburgh-based NEP Broadcasting and Lahaska, PA-based Remote Recording.

Veteran engineer Tommy Vicari mixed the orchestra and music stems with a Reverb 6000 as one of the main effects on the Neve VRM console in the Dave Hewitt-designed "Silver Studio". TC Electronic’s Reverb 6000 includes the entire family of award-winning VSS reverbs for mono, stereo, LtRt, 5.1 and 6.1 formats and is still the only processor with a touch screen remote with motorized faders.

The ABC network pre-show telecast also featured a TC DB-4 DTV audio processor, which includes automatic level control, five-band compression and peak limiting, as well as automatic up-mixing from stereo to 5.1. Klaus Landsberg, another veteran of numerous award shows, manned the Calrec console in the Supershooter 25B Hi-Def digital truck. Landsberg used a TC DB-4 DTV audio processor for the HD and SD feeds. “I used a DB-8 for multi-band processing on last year's Oscar pre-show and was very happy with the results,” said Landsberg. “So this year I am using a DB-4 on both the 5.1 and LtRt air chains."

TC|US distributes TC Electronic, TC-Helicon, Dynaudio Acoustics, and Lab.gruppen products in the US and Canada.
