The Seldon Plan - The Collective NowHighly polished yet exquisitely laid back indie rock: "What impresses us
most about this band's music is how unpretentious it is.
http://magnatune.com/artists/albums/seldon-collective
The smooth,
ultra-hummable songs on this CD flow by like big fluffy clouds in the sky.
After spinning this disc a few times...we can't decide which we like
better, the debut...or this? Actually and in fact, we prefer both as they
are each equally satisfying and superb." --Babysue. Standout tracks include
"Colored Lenses," "Seraphim" and our favorite, the deceptively catchy
"Modern Vigil."
Duo de Bois - Six Sonatas for Flute and Violin - Opus 51 - Boismortier
http://magnatune.com/artists/albums/bois-sixsonatas
The press has described Stephen Schultz as "among the most flawless
artists on the baroque flute," and here he teams up with Elizabeth
Blumenstock of the "hair trigger virtuosity" on violin for a deeply
charismatic performance of Boismortier's sonatas. We always love it when
such fresh, vibrant sensibilities are brought to bear on baroqe
compositions, and this album has been in heavy rotation since we got it.
Justin Bianco - Blackbird
http://magnatune.com/artists/albums/bianco-blackbird
SO atmospheric, we love the moody modernism of Justin Bianco's original
piano compositions, and his style of playing is very natural.
Contemplative, elegant, and slightly brooding, this is the perfect music
to usher in your late fall. Highly recommended.
Hans Christian - Cinema of Dreams
http://magnatune.com/artists/albums/hanschristian-cinema
Unravel and/or time travel to Hans Christians' glorious Cinema Of Dreams,
a collection of solo cello pieces combined with keyboards, sarangi, tape,
nyckelharpa, sitara, bass, sarod, and various rhythm instruments. This
album also has some great sound design with tape effects, backwards
phrasing, half speed loops and more. Finding new musical settings for the
cello has always been of interest to Hans, and on this CD he has
discovered some amazing new territory in this regard. Some pieces have an
electronic quality with oscillator-driven drone scapes, while others
incorporate a distinctly classical orchestral sound. Esoteric yet very
warm. Enjoy!
Solace - Moon Moth Mixes
http://magnatune.com/artists/albums/solace-moon
When artists get remixed this well, it's not only because there's a demand
for more of their work--it's because their work inspires a multitude of
approaches to the music. Bringing together everything that is mysterious
and seductive in both electronic and Middle Eastern music, the Moon Moth
Mixes are seriously great. Deep, dark, and very sexy, this is the kind of
album you can only make when you have achieved fierce levels of expertise
and fearlessness in your craft.
Altri Stromenti - Italian Music of the 17th Century
http://magnatune.com/artists/albums/stromenti-italian
Bringing an album's worth of undiluted Viennese grace and elegance to
life, Altri Stromenti Music Director Leszek Firek shows deep literacy and
understanding of the music from this period. Features the work of Giovanni
Battista Buonamente, as well as Uccellini, Legrenzi and several other
composers of the day.
DJ Cary - Electromelange
http://magnatune.com/artists/albums/magnacomp-electromelange
A good mood in album format, DJ Cary has come out with another of her
fabulous mixes, and this one will keep you grooving happily all day long.
A wonderful mix of world-influenced electronic music, featuring some of
our most popular artists including Williamson, Four Stones, and Burning
Babylon. Enjoy!
Janine Johnson - Suites - Op 22 24 and 29
http://magnatune.com/artists/albums/jjohnson-suites/
Janine Johnson's original suites showcase her considerable composition
talents as well as the thoughtful harpsichord playing for which she is
known. Janine is one of those artists who puts enormous quantities of
consideration and attention to detail into her work, and it all comes out
in the music. Rich tones, reflective work.
