2003 marked the arrival of a Pro School in the Southern Hemisphere when Digidesign and the University of Technology, Sydney launched UTS Pro School last February. One year on, the school celebrates its first birthday with a full schedule of 2004 courses and Australia’s first cohort of in-country trained, Digidesign-certified Pro Tools Music Operators.
Students at UTS Pro School benefit from the latest technology audio facilities based around Pro Tools|HD and LE systems. Three control rooms, used for 200 and 300 level courses and equipped variously to specialise in music/audio arts, post production and radio production, are housed around a central recording floor. There are an additional seven Pro Tools LE production suites for 100 level coursework.
While catering in the main for individuals seeking to enhance or develop their Pro Tools know-how, UTS Pro School has flexible delivery options that allow for customised training both on-site or externally for groups and organizations.
Classes are small, so students can maximize access to workstations and the expert tutelage of Digidesign-certified instructor James Hurley, a sound editor and composer with over twelve years of Pro Tools experience, six of those as a Pro Tools instructor. James originally trained in music composition and arranging before moving to a career as a freelance sound editor and composer for film, TV and new media projects. He is currently finishing off an album of original and collaborative compositions.
UTS Pro School runs out of the sound studios at the UTS City campus, conveniently located on the edge of the Sydney CBD and close to public transport, main attractions such as Chinatown and Darling Harbour, and a short bus ride from Sydney’s famous Harbour and beaches.
UTS Pro School's 2004 courses are now open for registration.
