Novation kick off a series of high profile blogs with Bloc Party’s Gordon Moakes describing how he – and you – can get the most out of
your hi-tech music making set-up…
“I’m anything but a sound geek – in fact I’m a sound engineer’s worst
nightmare: a musician!” jokes Bloc Party’s Gordon Moakes in his new
Novation blog. His experiences, however, are common to all of us and
as he gets to grips with some of the latest technology to help him
make music we can all learn a thing or two from him. And that’s really the point of Novation’s new blogs: to help us all make more
music and to see how the high profile musicians we aspire to make
their music and share their gear experiences. Gordon’s is the first
of many blogs planned by Novation with others in the pipeline set to
cover all sorts of production subjects like recording, synthesis,
mixing and mastering – watch and learn the ropes from the stars in
action!
Gordon is the bass player in Bloc Party who are very much the kings
of indie rock, having scored the NME Album Of The Year with their
debut album Silent Alarm and a UK number 2 and US top 20 with the
follow up, 2007’s A Weekend In The City. As they begin work on their
third album Moakes is keen to get to grips with some new recording
technology and share his thoughts with the world, hence the new
Novation blog. Moakes continues with another classic line that we can
all relate to… “I’m not interested in waiting two hours while
somebody connects a bundle of cables into some complicated looking
units. I just want to plug in and start playing.” And he does just
that with Novation’s nio 2/4.
As well as sharing some humorous thoughts on technology, Moakes then
offers some practical advice for guitar players to get the most from
their set-ups.
There’s plenty more on the way from Gordon and several other high
profile Novation users, as Giles Orford, Focusrite and Novation’s
Marketing Director comments: “We thought it would be fun and
informative for our website visitors to see how our gear is used by
high profile users and interact with them through our celebrity blogs– or ‘clogs’ if you like – to offer an insight into the world of some
very successful musicians.”
