Airshow Mastering Celebrates 25th Anniversary
Boulder, CO, August 5, 2008 — Airshow Mastering, a full-service mastering facility that also offers editing, mixing, restoration, and location recording for individual artists and record labels, announced today the celebration of their 25th anniversary with two events in Boulder, Colorado.
Founded in 1983 by David Glasser and Ann Blonston to offer location audio recording, Airshow Mastering soon expanded their services to meet the growing demands of their clients—among whom have included the Grateful Dead, Fall Out Boy, Bob Mould, Richard Thompson, Tommy Emmanuel, and Mary Chapin Carpenter. In addition to editing, mixing, and restoration services, Airshow Mastering was one of the first commercial studios to offer DSD and SACD mastering and authoring.
“The range of services we offer our clients here at Airshow has grown tremendously over the years,” cites Glasser, Airshow’s chief engineer. “For example, it’s very uncommon to find specialized services like HDCD encoding, SACD authoring, surround mastering, and restoration offered within a single facility; this is one of the things that really sets Airshow apart,” Glasser adds.
Aside from the breadth of services offered by Airshow Mastering, Glasser attributes the experience of the Airshow staff as a central factor behind the company’s growth and success over the past 25 years.
“Our engineers—co-owner Charlie Pilzer, Dominick Maita, Jim Wilson, mixers James Tuttle and Jason McDaniel, and myself—bring over a century of combined professional experience to the table. Our projects have garnered two Grammy® awards and four Grammy nominations, and we’ve contributed to nearly 90 Grammy-nominated projects over the years,” says Glasser.
“I’m continually impressed with the detail in the mastering projects I’ve sent Airshow,” cites engineer/producer and Airshow client Sean O’Keefe (Plain White T’s, Fall Out Boy). “I’ve been sending literally everything I do to them for the past five years; they’re easy to work with and my projects always come back sounding right to my ears, full of flavor, and further in the direction of the music,” O’Keefe continues.
“In 20 years of making records, I have to say that Airshow Mastering rocks me harder than any other mastering house,” Austin, Texas artist/producer David Garza (This Euphoria) adds. “They are cool people who give fair prices and always know exactly how to pump up the music in the right ways. I’m proud to say I feel a part of the extended Airshow family, and congratulate them on 25 years of excellent service.”
To celebrate their 25th anniversary, Airshow Mastering will be hosting a seminar on Analog Tape Recorder Maintenance and Alignment with Mike Spitz from ATR Magnetics and party on Saturday, September 13. Airshow Mastering will also be announcing an upcoming artist contest to commemorate their 25th anniversary.
“The music industry’s experienced some pretty drastic changes since we opened our doors 25 years ago,” cites Glasser. “As the number of projects that originate in project studios and smaller independent studios increases, the need for the kind of professional experience Airshow offers grows ever more valuable. In fact, we are building a new facility in Washington DC with tracking, mixing, and mastering rooms to meet these kinds of demands,” says Glasser. “The ability to adapt to changes in our industry is exactly what we feel will keep us growing strong as we step into the next quarter century of our business.”
