Associated Press - LOS ANGELES - William Hung, the lovable singer who became a celebrity after his version of Ricky Martin's "She Bangs" got him booted off of "American Idol," is confident he is no longer the worst singer Simon Cowell has ever heard.
Hung, who proudly said on TV that he doesn't have any professional musical training, is serious about his career. "Oh yeah, that's going to change of course. I want to get better," Hung told AP Radio. He plans to take voice training and dance lessons.
Hung's new album, "Inspiration" will be released April 6. It will contain covers of Martin's "Shake Your Bon Bon," Elton John's "Rocket Man," R. Kelly's "I Believe I Can Fly" and, of course, "She Bangs." Hung said the song "Free" was written especially for him and that it sounds really good.
The disc will also include a 40-minute DVD with behind-the-scenes footage of studio recording sessions and fan questions and answers.
Hung, who recently performed before 27,000 people in Richmond, Va., and 10,000 in San Diego, said his new career has forced him to cut back his college workload. Hung is studying civil engineering at the University of California, Berkeley.
Hung, who is recognized practically everywhere he goes, said he wishes he could say a few things to Cowell. "I mean, he literally said that I'm the worst singer. I'm not the worst singer," Hung said.
