MakeMusic! Releases Finale NotePad 2004

Downloadable freeware music notation software offers new features, compatibility with Finale 2004, and support of OS9, OSX, and Windows 98/2000/NT/ME/XP

MakeMusic!(R) Inc. (Nasdaq:MMUS) announced today the release of Finale(R) NotePad(R) 2004, the latest version of the popular freeware. Based on their award-winning Finale music notation software, NotePad allows users of both Windows(R) and Macintosh(R) computers to create, play back, and print out their very own sheet music. Downloads are available at http://www.finalemusic.com/notepad/index.asp. NotePad software has been downloaded by more than 750,000 musicians in over 200 countries worldwide and published in five languages.

Notepad 2004 offers a variety of powerful and timesaving new features for educators, students, composers and publishers. New features Include:

  • Macintosh Carbonization for OS X and OS 9 Support
  • Improved Simple Note Entry
  • Smart Hyphens and Smart Word Extensions
  • Human Playback
  • Accidental Collision Avoidance Between Layers
  • Redraw and Refresh Improvements
  • Multiple Selection of Articulations
  • Mass Edit Copying of Lyrics

NotePad users can set up a music score and enter clefs, time signatures, key signatures, notes, rests, lyrics, markings and musical instructions. The Finale technology automatically arranges the many elements on the page just like an engraver would and prints the sheet music with the same high quality publishers enjoy. Finale NotePad also offers "Human Playback", a feature introduced in Finale 2004, that transforms the playback of music entered via the computer keyboard into an expressive performance, allowing arrangers and composers to hear their work as it was intended to be performed.

NotePad users who decide they need more powerful features for more sophisticated music can upgrade to NotePad Plus, PrintMusic!(R), Allegro(R), Finale(R) Guitar or Finale. They can use their music created on NotePad with all these products because they share files, including between Windows and Macintosh computers. NotePad users can thus also share files with users of Finale, Finale Guitar, Allegro, PrintMusic! and NotePad Plus. For years thousands of Finale files have been shared on the Internet and now, with Finale NotePad, anyone can access those files and distribute their own.
