HATS OFF FOR TRURO COLLEGE GRADUATES
Truro College held a graduation ceremony at Truro Cathedral in November to honour almost a hundred Higher Education students. Among them were students of Sound Engineering, Jazz and Popular Music, present to receive awards for courses validated by the Universities of Exeter and Plymouth.
The rapid expansion of the College’s HE provision over the past four years has meant that the College can no longer accommodate the increased number of Graduands, friends and family who want to share the occasion and so have joined with the Cathedral to provide a prestigious setting.
The evening started with a traditional procession of graduands and staff, the Very Reverend Dean of Truro, Michael Moxon then welcomed everyone to the Cathedral. Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University of Plymouth, Professor Les Ebdon was the guest speaker. He confirmed the significance of the development of the Combined Universities in Cornwall (CUC) and its supporting role of Colleges in its future development. Professor Edbon spoke of his sympathy for the needs of the students and the difficulties facing students balancing their academic challenges alongside financial pressure, and referred to the problems for commuting students who live in rural areas.
Truro College now forms part of the Combined Universities in Cornwall and is currently developing its HE portfolio to provide courses in Geography, Arts in Culture, Performance, Dance, History and Health & Fitness, as well as converting many of its HND courses to Foundation Degrees.
After the awards had finished students took the opportunity to catch up with friends and lecturers
while enjoying a buffet with family and friends.
“The evening went extremely well, everyone enjoyed it and I feel it was an appropriate celebration of the success of our students. This is an evening to show recognition of all the years of hard work that have been put in by our Graduates. Our staff are proud of the success of their students and confident that this will be carried forward in their lives. We wish them the best of luck for the future.” Said Jonathan Burnett OBE, Principal of Truro College.
The ceremony honoured graduates of BA (Hons) English, BMus (Hons) Jazz, HND Applied Biology, HND Community Studies, HND Computing, HND Early Childhood Studies, HND Legal Studies, HND Outdoor Education, HND Performing Arts, HND Photography & Digital Imaging, HND Applied Psychology, HND Sound Engineering & Multimedia Integration, HND Sports Science & Injury Management, HNC Complimentary Therapies, HNC Sports Science, HNC Laboratory Technology and Certificate in Education.
