Napster, a division of Roxio (Nasdaq: ROXI - News), today announced that Citi
and Energizer have chosen to attract and reward customers via a promotional
partnership with the digital music service which offers the largest online catalog
and broadest range of features. The alliance with Napster will allow these market
leaders to leverage the power and affinity of the leading brand in legal digital
music and directly target key demographics. Citi and Energizer plan to deliver
consumer programs that capture the innovation and promise of Napster, creating
customizable promotions that will allow participants to choose the music and
the experience they want.
The breadth of the Napster service gives Citi and Energizer the ability to develop
unique, brand-specific programs that will begin summer 2004 and involve different
Napster rewards.
Citi Cards, a division of Citigroup, in conjunction with its college student
campaigns, will provide either 25 free download credits from Napster or a free
three-month Napster Premium subscription for select card members. Citi will
initially make the offer available in connection with a direct mail campaign
as well as through online channels. Amer Sajed, senior vice president, Citi,
"is pleased to partner with Napster and be able to offer free, legal music
downloads to our new customers."
An exclusive deal with Energizer for music downloads will put a promotional
code redeemable for one free Napster download in every 4-, 8- and 12-pack of
AA Energizer® e2® batteries and every 4- and 8-pack of AAA Energizer®
e2® batteries; codes redeemable for two free downloads will be included
in every 12-pack of AAA Energizer® e2® batteries. The promotional offers
will be prominently featured on over 4 million battery packages and, for security,
the promotional codes themselves will only be viewable when the packages are
opened by consumers. Napster will be the only music service Energizer features
in a promotion of this kind. "Energizer® is excited to partner with
Napster to enhance the music experience of today's on-the-go consumer,"
said Jeff Ziminski, vice president of marketing for Energizer®. "Energizer®
e2® powers the music in portable audio devices allowing consumers to enjoy
music any time, any where."
"These promotional agreements affirm that behind the unparalleled power
of the Napster brand is a compelling digital music platform that can provide
custom, differentiated music-based incentive programs for the world's most prestigious
companies," said Larry Linietsky, Napster's SVP of worldwide business development.
"We are extremely pleased to partner with companies that share our goals
of delivering quality, value and customized music experiences for consumers
via these unique programs."
The parties are already working to further expand these partnerships across
different products and divisions.
