of its quality programming in advance of its planned fourth quarter launch,
The America Channel - the new non-fiction cable network focusing on real stories
about real people - has launched an Internet audio service, The America Channel
Radio, airing Fridays at noon ET/ 9 a.m. PT at www.americachannel.us and on
World Talk Radio at www.worldtalkradio.com (Windows Media Player required).
The America Channel Radio hosts include acclaimed journalist Mary Alice Williams
and entertainment personality Shawn Southwick-King. Other on-air contributors
include Doron Gorshein, chairman and CEO of The America Channel, and Pantelis
Michalopoulos of the DC-based law firm of Steptoe & Johnson, LLP, The America
Channel's counsel for government affairs.
"The America Channel will tell the extraordinary stories of how ordinary
Americans are transforming this country community by community. Across the country,
people are supporting our mission; and they want a greater level of community,
connectivity and authenticity on television," said Gorshein. "The
America Channel Radio allows listeners to follow the story of The America Channel
as it unfolds, and provide a taste of the programming to come."
TAC Radio consists of a one-hour weekly show initially airing live every Friday
at noon ET/9 a.m. PT, and archived online for on-demand listening. Shows will
include such features as topical/current events; human interest segments; profiles
of ordinary heroes and communities from across America; trends in television
content; a legislative segment discussing proposed legislation affecting the
cable and media industries; a "producer's corner"; and a kids' forum
with topical discussion on kids and the media. Guests will include cable and
satellite executives, TAC television production partners, local American personalities,
legislators, and others with an interest in the media industry.
About Shawn Southwick-King
Shawn Southwick-King has been a part of the world of entertainment all her
life. From 1990-96 she hosted USA Cable's weekly television entertainment news
series, Hollywood Insider, interviewing top stars, producers, directors, and
executives in the recording, television, and motion picture industries. She
also co-hosted The Spectacular World of Guinness Records with David Frost. Her
credits include an array of guest starring roles in television sitcoms, episodic
series and movies of the week.
About Mary Alice Williams
Mary Alice Williams, currently appearing on WCBS Radio in New York and on Discovery
Health Channel, was one of the founding anchors and designers of CNN, where
she oversaw the construction and organization of CNN's New York Bureau. She
spent eight years at CNN as an anchor and vice president before joining NBC,
where she became the first woman to win a national Emmy Award for anchoring
an evening network newscast. As a reporter, anchor, host or writer, Williams
has also appeared in newscasts and documentaries for Discovery Health Network,
Hallmark Channel, PBS, Lifetime Television, and others. Earlier in her career,
she was a reporter and anchor at WNBC and WPIX in New York.
About Pantelis Michalopoulos
Pantelis Michalopulos is a partner with the law firm of Steptoe & Johnson,
LLP with a practice focused on the regulation of telecommunications and media.
He has recently represented clients before the Federal Communications Commission
and the courts on several questions of broad policy importance, including the
"broadcast flag" imposed by the FCC on TV manufacturers as a means
of digital copy protection and the bundling of programming networks by large
media conglomerates.
