Student Enjoying Work Placement at ITV Granada Television

"The work placement is fantastic, you may find this crazy but im disappointed that I went on holiday and missed so much, I will have to make an extra effort when I go back on monday, which will be my first real show day so cant wait. "

Paul is currently taking Audiocourses.com Work Placement Module where we help find the student a placement close to them or in the field of their interest.

We hooked Paul up with ITV Granada Television. The placement itself is in sound production for both broadcast and live sound reinforcement on location for the filming of “Simply The Best” in Jersey, UK. “Simply The Best” is a live game show as well as hosting live performances from high profile music artists.

Paul States:

"All the people there are great, the first day I got there I was treated as if I had been part of the crew for years, I had the grand tour on the first day, got to see the "House Tower" where the PA and stuff is run and the OB truck, I also saw all the visual side of things as well which is really intresting, I have a friend who vision mixes at school so I will be able to tell him about it and also im doing a media studies course next term so it will be a great advantage.

On friday I spent most of the day in the tower with Mark who does FOH and Mons. I ran the desk for a while whilst he was busy. Everyone jokes that I can stay and run everything while they go to the pub. It is a yamaha DM2000 digital mixer and during the break he saved the data to disk and wiped the desk so I could have a go at setting things up and trying some of the features.

Also the "Grams" are up in the tower, so I was helping alex to do that, it is all the songs, backing tracks and sound effects. It is done with a computer and a program called quickfire as well as the standard CD, MD, DAT and an mp3 gizmo by 360 systems.

On monday I will spend some time with Kevin in the truck for rehearsals then up to the tower during the show. I will probs try and spends some time at what they call the Base, which is where all the microphones and stage gear etc. are handed out and co-ordinated.

speak to you soon

- Paul

P.s. I got a radio aswell, I made a point of wearing the headset when I went to KFC to get a drink and rubbed it in to the lampies I know that didnt have one! LOL."
