SANTA ANA, Calif., Oct. 28 - SRS Labs, Inc. (Nasdaq: SRSL), a leading provider of innovative audio, voice and semiconductor technology solutions, today announced that the company will attend the 2004 Remix Hotel show in San Francisco from Oct. 28-31 that will be held in the W Hotel.
The company will be demonstrating its Circle Surround(R) ("CS") encoding
and decoding system, which allows broadcasters, musicians and content providers
to deliver 5.1 surround sound over the standard stereo broadcasting infrastructure,
DVDs and even regular compact discs. Circle Surround demos will be held in suite
#411 of the W Hotel, across the street from the Audio
Engineering Society (AES) convention that is being held concurrent with
REMIX. Alan Kraemer, the company's executive vice president of technology and
business development, is scheduled to speak on a panel at the AES show entitled
"Surround Sound For Digital Radio," which
examines the intricacies of delivering multichannel audio over this new medium.
The panel will be held on Sat. Oct. 30 at the AES show in the Moscone Convention
Center from 9:00 a.m. to noon and will discuss the various digital radio systems,
how they work and the challenges of the various broadcast and bandwidth restraints.
"I am very pleased to be participating on the Surround Radio panel at AES,"
said Kraemer. "Surround is an important step forward for radio that has
the potential to provide home-theater-like experiences in a mobile environment.
Critical to the success of surround in the car, however, is the understanding
that the automobile is NOT a home theater and, because of this, a different
approach to surround presentation is required."
Circle Surround has long been a leading surround encoding technology for broadcasters
and content providers because it can easily encode up to 5.1 channels of audio
into two channels for broadcast over the existing stereo broadcast infrastructure
or storage on DVDs or even regular compact discs that can be played on any regular
CD player.
CS has also become the surround encoding technology of choice for TOKYO
FM in Japan and Guangdong Radio in China, which have audiences in the hundreds
of millions and is widely used by music and video entertainment companies, including
Lava records, a prestigious music label with artists such as Uncle Kracker,
and Coming Home Studios, one of the hottest independent full service television
and music DVD companies that creates and distributes live concert DVDs.
Concert DVDs mixed in Circle Surround include Matchbox Twenty's SHOW -- A Night
In The Life Of Matchbox Twenty, Boz Scaggs' Greatest Hits Live, and Rush in
Rio. Circle Surround-encoded CDs are 100 percent compatible with any CD or DVD
player and can be enjoyed in surround sound when hooked up to a home theater
system that includes a surround decoder. The powerful benefit of Circle Surround
for artists and record labels is that Circle Surround-encoded CDs are also compatible
with stereo headphones or with a traditional two speaker stereo system so one
mix and one CD will satisfy all listeners and playback systems.
Major broadcasters, including ABC,
CBS, NBC,
ESPN, ESPN
2, ESPN HD,
FOX, FX,
TNT and PBS,
have delivered hundreds of events and television programs in Circle Surround
and it is the only surround encoding technology approved by iBiquity Digital
for its HD Radio technology, which is the only FCC-approved system that provides
digital broadcasting within the existing AM and FM spectrum and also supports
analog broadcasts to legacy receivers.
"Circle Surround technology is the most versatile surround encode/decode
technology currently on the market," said Mike Canevaro, director of sales
for SRS Labs. "With applications ranging from surround music on a regular
compact disc to terrestrial radio broadcasters delivering an incredible 6.1
channel experience, CS provides broadcasters, artists and other content providers
with the very best surround sound tools to deliver the material they created
over any available delivery format." SRS Labs will share demonstration
suite #411 in the W Hotel with high-end speaker manufacturer Focal-JMLab, a
French company headquartered in St. Etienne that has grown to become internationally
recognized as one of the world's top three high fidelity loudspeaker companies.
Visitors can hear SRS Circle Surround demonstrations over the Focal SM-8 and
SM-11 series speakers and audio experts from SRS Labs will be on hand to answer
questions about SRS encoding and decoding technology. Circle Surround and the
next generation Circle Surround II ("CS II") decoding technology has
been incorporated by leading hardware and software manufacturers including:
Kenwood, Marantz,
Motorola, Theta
Digital, Accuphase,
M-Audio, Orion
Studios and Smart Devices. CS II
features patented post- processing techniques to enhance the surround sound
experience, including SRS Dialog Clarity(TM), which improves the intelligibility
and clarity of center channel information such as dialog, and SRS TruBass(R),
which uses patented psychoacoustic techniques to deliver deep, rich bass from
any playback system, including those with or without a subwoofer. For more information
