Sound.org will acquire, publish, and distribute innovative audio-related books, tutorials, and more; First book and interactive tutorial, which teaches people to produce original tracks, is now available.
117th AES Convention, San Francisco, CA, October 28, 2004 — WAVES AUDIO LTD., a leading provider of audio signal processing technologies, announced today that the founders of Waves have created a new, independent company called
Sound.org, which will be dedicated to publishing books and other materials about
audio and music production. The first book published by Sound.org is now available:
Production – Mixing – Mastering with Waves by Anthony Egizii includes
an interactive CD course, allowing users to learn how to master the tools that
shape the sound of hit songs in five contemporary music styles, including Urban,
R&B, Rock/Alternative, Dance, and Country.
“Our goal in forming Sound.org is to provide a creative and academic
publications platform from which authors and readers can produce and distribute
sound-related media,” said Gilad Keren, CEO and co-founder of Waves. “By
doing so, we hope to further the science of audio engineering by garnering the
attention of audio professionals and academics and expanding their knowledge
of sound.”
Sound.org will publish two types of sound-related products: creative and academic.
The academic materials will focus on topics ranging from the history of sound
to the biology, physics, mechanical, electrical, psychological, and acoustic
modeling of sound. The creative materials will include multimedia-based demonstrations
and tutorials based on the Open-Mix™ format, which enables aspiring musicians,
producers, sound engineers, and others to mix or remix the original tracks so
that they can make their own version. With the Open-Mix format, users can take
a song and replace the lyrics, guitar, drums, and more to learn the secrets
of creating a great mix. By allowing users to work with the same mixing techniques
on the same material, Open-Mix recreates the exact experience that the professionals
had when they made the mix.
The first Sound.org published book Production – Mixing – Mastering
with Waves includes an interactive CD course, based on Open-Mix, which allows
users to hear and experiment with five professionally mixed tracks using Waves’
proprietary plug-ins and browse the settings of each of the individual instruments
used in the songs. Users will be guided through the process of how the songs
were arranged and produced, learning the techniques used and how to apply them
to their own music.
Another upcoming Sound.org book that will soon be published is Michael Gerzon
– Beyond Psychoacoustics, a biography of one of the world’s most
prominent acousticians. Authored by Robert Alexander, the much awaited biography
will be published to coincide with the tenth anniversary of Gerzon’s tragic
death at the age of 50. Michael Gerzon was an audio genius whose inventions
include Ambisonics, the Sound Field microphone, multiple new and innovative
algorithms for audio software solutions, and DVD-Audio.
“As part of the Waves family of companies, Sound.org will naturally benefit
from our experience of being the leading developer of audio signal processing
tools and our extensive network of industry contacts with creative and academic
professionals who require the very best sound-related products,” said
Yakov Gilad, general manager of Sound.org. “Furthermore, we have close-working
relationships with some of the world’s foremost audio engineering writers
and journalists, all of whom can now benefit from the Sound.org platform for
their material.”
Authors Wanted
While Sound.org is a profit-making enterprise, the primary focus is to sponsor
creative and academic works in the art and science of sound. To that end, the
company will actively seek out new and innovative materials for the Sound.org
array of titles.
“Audio professionals and academicians with existing or conceptual material
now have a channel for their work,” added Gilad. Sound.org is actively
soliciting material and ideas for new books which can be sold through the company’s
channels. Sound.org has a team of people dedicated to promoting the published
materials to creative and academic professionals. The Sound.org team also assists
authors with the editorial, design, pre-publication, pre-distribution, and marketing
of their material.
