AUSTIN, Texas - March 8, 2005 - Wayport, the nation's largest provider of Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g) wireless and wired high-speed Internet access to mobile travelers in nearly 7,000 locations including hotels, airports, McDonald's, Hertz and other retail brands, announced today that it will offer free streaming radio featuring blues and alternative country music via its Wi-Fi wireless high-speed
Internet access at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.
This locally-flavored music will be provided through an alliance between the Texas Music Group of Austin and Wayport. The Texas Music Group represents Antone's Records, a leader in producing quality blues music since 1987, and Lone Star
Records, which since 1999 has established itself as a forerunner in the Texas country music and alternative country movement.
In keeping with the city's reputation as the "Live Music Capitol of the
World," Wayport will offer an on-air music experience to business travelers
utilizing Wayport's Wi-Fi service at Austin-Bergstrom. Wayport and Texas Music
Group, both Austin-based companies, are teaming up to broadcast a unique listening
experience which will complement the live music enjoyed by travelers at Austin-Bergstrom
International Airport.
"Wayport recognizes the growing interest in, and demand for, the content-rich
features and applications available through high quality broadband Internet
access, and we continue to look for ways to create additional value for our
customers," said Dan Lowden, vice president of marketing and business development
for Wayport. "We are excited to work with the Texas Music Group and to
bring the unique sounds of Austin "roots" music to Wayport customers
at Austin-Bergstrom."
The streaming radio player is an exclusive offering for Wayport customers and
will feature recordings from Austin's most prominent independent record labels,
spotlighting best-selling artists such as Toni Price, Alejandro Escovedo and
Chip Taylor & Carrie Rodriguez. Customers simply connect to Wayport's Wi-Fi
service and will be offered a chance to listen to the music for free from Texas
Music Group.
"The Texas Music Group is pleased to expand the way we reach our listeners
and fans by engaging Wi-Fi and wireless technology. Working with Wayport gives
us the opportunity to deliver quality music at its best to business travelers
at the airport and to reach new audiences with the rich, diverse music produced
in the Lone Star state," said Tristan Ader of the Texas Music Group.
"The streaming radio listening experience offered by Wayport and the Texas
Music Group is another innovative avenue for the Austin-Bergstrom Airport to
bring the sounds of Austin to central Texas travelers," said Jamy Kazanoff,
Assistant Director, Business Development and Customer Relations at the Austin-Bergstrom
International Airport. "We continue to seek ways of providing excellent
service to our customers by utilizing the kind of unique content, communications
and technology tools that Wayport offers."
