Risskov, Denmark - October 10, 2003 - TC Electronic is pleased to announce a new software update for the PowerCore platform. Version 1.8 includes a new guitar amp simulator called Voltronics, in addition to several performance enhancements. The update will be available in December as a free download from tcelectronic.com for all registered users.
With the version 1.8 software update, users can expect significant performance improvements on G4/G5 Macs and Pentium 4/Athlon 64 PCs. All included PowerCore plug-ins have been revamped to include the application-independent TC preset bank manager and faster screen redraws. Over 500 new presets have been added, including about 300 just for PowerCore 01 Synth alone. The new Voltronics guitar simulator plug-in brings the total number of virtual processors included with PowerCore to 10.
Voltronics, a guitar amp simulator plug-in, includes three tube stages and a speaker simulator for truly convincing amp modeling. Each of the 3 stages is based on a classic 12AX7 design and can be individually adjusted making the sonic possibilities virtually endless, from warm tones to screaming overdrive. The speaker simulator was derived directly from the impulse measurements of a 2 x 12 cabinet. Additional adjustments can be made with the virtual microphone placement control, which simulates the subtle tonal variations resulting from different mic techniques.
Voltronics also includes a fingerprint-based noise reduction filter that allows settings to be saved independently from the amp settings. An expander enables further improvement of the overall sound.
According to John Epperson, product manager, "Voltronics is a 'hybrid' plug-in, utilizing both native and DSP resources. By combining the strengths of both worlds, we're able to optimize the DSP performance, and delivered a plug-in with very low latency, so guitar players can play along with Voltronics in real-time."
