Earlier this year, the first 50 historic sound recordings (including "The Message." Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five) were added to the National Recording Registry in Washington, DC.
The National Recording Registry was established by the National Recording Preservation Act of 2000 to draw attention to the need to preserve and restore America's recorded sound heritage.
"The Message." Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. (1982) is number 50 on the list.
Grand Master Flash and the Furious Five was a pivotal group in the early days of rap, developing crucial aspects of the genre. Their 1982 hit, "The Message," is significant because of its focus on urban social issues–a course followed by many later rappers.
This heritage is threatened by the deterioration of most of the recording media invented in the last 100 years, including modern audio tape. Audiocourses.com encourages all Members to visit National Recording Preservation to learn more about
