Company Listed Number 14 Out of 100 Publicly Traded American Companies

Marin County, California (August 23, 2005) – Sonic Solutions® (NASDAQ: SNIC), the world leader in digital media software, announced today that FORTUNE has recognized it as the 14th fastest growing company in America in 2005. The list, which is comprised of public companies, appears in the September issue of FORTUNE, currently available on newsstands and at www.fortune.com. Additionally, Sonic Solutions was recently ranked number 6 on the list of the fastest growing Fortune Small Businesses in the July/August 2005 issue and 34th in the Business 2.0 100 Fastest Growing Technology Companies June 2005 issue.

“We are honored to be listed as the 14th fastest growing company in America by FORTUNE Magazine,” said Robert Doris, Chairman and CEO of Sonic Solutions. “The past year has been a very exciting one for Sonic as is evidenced by the 59% growth rate the company experienced in fiscal year 2005. The Sonic drive to change the way people create, share and interact with all forms of digital media has been the cornerstone of our success.”

Doris continued, “Starting with innovative professional tools for DVD creation in Hollywood, we successfully adapted our technology for the first-time digital media enthusiast, and with the help of our large and growing network of OEM and retail distribution partners, more people than ever before are now able to capture, create, and share the best moments of their digital lives on CD and DVD. With more and more consumers managing their photos, videos and music digitally and with the coming introduction of next-generation Blu-ray and HD DVD technologies to the consumer, we look forward to continuing our leadership role in delivering award-winning products and technologies to the rapidly growing digital media world.”

To compile the list, FORTUNE worked with Zack’s Investment Research. Criteria used to select the fastest growing companies included market capitalization of at least $50 million on June 30, 2005; revenues of at least $50 million for the most recent four quarters, ending with the first quarter of 2005; annualized revenue growth of at least 25% for the past three years; and, annualized earnings-per-share growth of at least 25% for the past three years. Companies were then ranked according to compound annual growth in earnings, revenues, and finally total annualized return.
