NEW YORK: The 119th AES Convention Student Program is geared to provide fledgling audio pros with solid opportunities to jump-start their careers. The team of Education Committee Events Co-Chairs Dottie Kreps and Felice Lazar Santos-Martin
have coordinated a series of panels, one-on-one mentoring sessions and creative recording competitions designed to test their student mettle and get their creative juices flowing. Set for Oct. 7-10 in NY’s Jacob Javits Center, the Convention will host 400+ exhibitors and anticipates 20,000 attendees.
Participating mentors/, competition judges and panelists include: Mastering eEngineer Emily Lazar (David Bowie, Third Eye Blind, Natalie Merchant), Kevin Killen (Peter Gabriel, Elvis Costello, Jewel), and 5.1 Surround sound/THX pioneer Tom Holman. FRIDAY, OCT. 7:
2:00pm – 3:30: Career Fair - A first for the AES, this event will provide opportunities
for students to meet with representatives from all segments of the industry. They will develop valuable initial contacts and learn more
about jobs and internships. Bring your resume!
1:30 – 3:00 PM Friday AND Saturday: Mentoring Sessions - One-on-one meetings with chart-topping industry pros will provide inspiration, guidance and real-world reality checks for determined hopefuls. Participants include judges from Recording and Design competitions as well as notable engineers, producers and technology designers.., all of whom have been there and done that now share their experiences with the enthusiastic rookies.

9:00AM – 12:30PM: AES Student Recording Competition: - Participants will present their original recordings and discuss their creative objectives and techniques.Winners in each category will receive cool prizes donated by this years’ generous sponsors including Sennheiser, Sony Pictures Sound Effects and Lavry Engineering.* Categories are include: Classical Stereo and Classical Surround; (judges Martha De Francisco, David Frost, and Richard King); Non-Classical Surround (Kevin Killen, Ronald Prent);, Jazz/Folk; (Steve Bellamy, Todd Whitelock) Pop/Rock (Emily Lazar, Darcy Proper); , and a new category this

enrolled in any university or recording school are invited to showcase their technical skills by presenting their designs of audio hardware or software for critique by leading highly qualified pro audio equipment designers/judges including George Massenburg, David Josephson and John LaGrou. Chair Jason Corey has invited institutions offering studies in audio to participate in informational “tabletop session.”s designed to answer questions about curriculum and help students find the best match for their interestsInformation on the respective programs will be displayed. Students will have the opportunity to talk to representatives from these programs. There is no charge to participate.
Career Fair - Debuting this year, the Career Fair matches up students with job opportunities and provides a chance for students to meet face-to-face with representatives from all segments of the industry.
