Dolby to Sponsor Training Sessions on HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc

NEW YORK — “The Next Generation of Consumer Disc Formats – HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc,” has been announced as part of new series of Training Seminars at the 119th Audio Engineering Society Convention, October 7-10, in New York. These two sessions, sponsored by Dolby Laboratories, will be held at 3:30-5 pm on October 7 and 8th at the Jacob Javits Convention Center.

"We believe this next generation of high-definition disc media will not only change the quality of the content delivered to consumers, but will significantly impact the way we produce programming for these new formats. We’ve assembled a stellar panel of experts to focus on both Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD, and I know they will give us insight into the latest information available," said Tom Daily, Marketing Director, Pro Division, Dolby Laboratories, Inc.

Attendees will learn about how each format is structured, about authoring tools, how the discs are replicated, and how both formats will impact the music, game, and video markets.

Panelists include: Mark Waring, Director, Sanyo Technology Center USA, who will explain the inner workings of HD-DVD; .Bob Ludwig, President, Gateway Mastering, who will share his insights on what the new formats mean for recorded music; David Anthony, Co-Founder, Giant Interactive, and Randy Hudson, President, Broadness LLC, both of whom will discuss the authoring implications. Steve Venezia from Dolby Labs and Lorr Kramer from DTS cover the audio implications of the new Disc format designs, which include the capability of delivering multichannel lossless audio.

Sessions are open to all AES attendees at no fee. The room assignment will be announced prior to the show via the AES web site and in the show program.
