If one thing is certain, then music technology, animation, TV sound, film sound tracking, games-design to name a few, are potential employment areas which are among a growth market of media-rich technically oriented skill sets.
The new moving image degree course, based in High-Wycombe, England, has a healthy balance of subject content aiming to instill an industrial philosophy among the takers! Course Leader, Chris Hambly, reflects by stating: "The Faculty of Technology at BCUC is building a positive initiative and strong support network for new-media developments not only in audio, but also in other growth sectors such as games and animation. The new BSc Audio Technology for the Moving Image (Hons) looks set to kick-off with a bang on Sept 06. The resource pool has strength in depth and with new A/V systems planned, both in terms of hardware and software, the students will be absorbing themselves with dynamic learning environments from day one. I am very excited about this one."
The course is set to run over three years as follows:
Year one is focused on giving a broad-based theoretical and practical knowledge of audio and moving image technologies in the professional environment. You will also be encouraged to develop musicianship and your musical ear, and to explore the cultural aspects of music and soundscapes and the technology behind them. In year two you will develop your recording techniques in a controlled studio environment and become familiar with sculpting sound and music to initiate emotional response. Digital audio production also forms a strong theme in your second year, applied with professional platforms such as ProTools, Cubase, Logic and Avid. In year three you will be able to explore your personal interests and develop the areas of significant interest to a high-level through your final project, which constitutes a major segment of your third year. This course is the newest of its kind and welcomes dynamic applicants.
Seems as if things are rosy for the University with positive vibes radiating.
