Led by Berklee Assistant Professor Matt Jenson Plays the Berklee Performance Center on Thursday, July 26

Boston, MA, July 11, 2007. The Acid Reggae Xperience, an experimental reggae/dub/neo-soul band led by Matt Jenson, pianist, composer, arranger, and Berklee assistant professor, plays at the Berklee Performance Center, located at 136 Massachusetts Ave., Boston, MA, on Thursday, July 26. The concert is open to all ages, $5, and begins at 8:15 p.m. The Berklee Performance Center is wheelchair accessible. For more information, please call 617-747-2261 or visit www.berkleebpc.com.

The Acid Reggae Xperience plays Matt Jenson’s hard-hitting, down-tempo reggae, funk and neo-soul arrangements of popular tunes by Bob Marley, Stevie Wonder, Steve Miller, and Eddie Palmieri, and originals – many with socio-political messages – couched in an expansive, spiritually motivating multi-media artistic vibration. The concept is continuous music and sound for the entire length of the concert. In a merging of live and electronic music, the repertoire is glued together with trippy electronic loops and textures generated from laptop computers. Says Jenson, “The whole concert is about creating a mysterious feeling throughout the hall. We achieve this with lots of creative visual effects and imagery that is designed to support and augment the meaning of each tune.” In the end, Jenson aims not only to critique, but also to offer a soul-ution through the raising of consciousness.

The massive, 13-piece group features outstanding members of the Berklee community and friends, including faculty members Wayne Naus (trumpet), Sean Skeete (drums), Daryl Lowery (tenor saxophone), and Danny Morris (bass); students Nori Kikuta (guitar), Blaine Brown (vocals), Jennifer Hirsh (vocals), and Joy Daniels (vocals); alumnus David Jimenez (guitar); staff member Mike Carerra (laptop effects, sound scapes, and visuals); Angel Subero (trombone), and timbale great Jose Claussell (percussion), timbalero for Latin music legend Eddie Palmieri.

Jenson also leads Rebel Tumbao: Bob Marley Inna Latin Vibration, featuring Bob Marley's music set to Jenson's Afro-Cuban arrangements, played by a 10-piece. He is well known at Berklee and beyond for his popular performance studies class The Music and Life of Bob Marley, and for directing the related Berklee Bob Marley Ensemble. He also worked with the Rita Marley Foundation to bring two students from Ghana to study at Berklee’s Five-Week Summer Performance Program in the summer of 2006.

Berklee College of Music was founded on the revolutionary principle that the best way to prepare students for careers in music was through the study and practice of contemporary music. For over 60 years, the college has evolved constantly to reflect the state of the art of music and the music business. With over a dozen performance and nonperformance majors, a diverse and talented student body representing over 70 countries, and a music industry "who's who" of alumni, Berklee is the world's premier learning lab for the music of today — and tomorrow.
