AIM are negotiating with Sony Music India to offer a licensing agreement for releases of independent British product, initially on a quarterly basis.
This offer only extends to AIM, BPI and MMF members.
The process will be as follows…
Participating labels will present repertoire to Sony Music (India) who will then select 12-20 albums (number yet to be finalised) for release in India.
A track will be selected from each album and included on a sampler CD, which will be racked and sold (at a promotional price) through major music chain stores in India.
Alongside the sampler CD will be a rack containing each of the individual albums participating in the campaign.
If the consumer purchases one of the featured albums they receive a free sampler CD.
Exact details of the licensing agreement are yet to be finalised, however, it will include a good royalty, guaranteed marketing, support of retail chains, media and eventually local promoters.
Whilst we realise that there are various issues, mainly concerning PRS, MCPS, PPL etc, we do believe that this could help develop the market from an international perspective.
The ultimate aim of this is to raise awareness of independent British music and artists in what has the potential to become one of the biggest markets in the world.
If you are interested in including your repertoire then please send a list of artists and titles that you would be willing to include to AIM by Friday March 5 2004.
