Manchester’s Studio Monkeys records MUTV live sessions exclusively with Audio-Technica Artist Series® mics.

Studio Monkeys® Recording Studios in Manchester has equipped itself with a full complement of Audio-Technica Artist Series™ microphones. These are being used to exclusively record weekly live filming sessions for Bands From The Stands, a showcase for local unsigned artists, featured on the Good Morning Manchester> programme that goes out on MUTV – ‘The Television Channel Dedicated to Manchester United’ – on Saturday mornings.

Darren Gould-Martin, owner and principal sound engineer, was responsible for persuading the show’s producers that the performances should be filmed live: “The producers originally booked into the studio to film the bands miming,” he says, “but I convinced them to record the performance live. They were suitably impressed with the results, and adopted the live format for the series.”

The live sessions required an expansion of the studio’s microphone inventory. The newly re-engineered and extended Artist Series from Audio-Technica offered a one stop solution; a complete range of production microphones, with a consistently high build quality and signature performance. A total of 16 mics supplied to the studios, includes low profile ATM350 condenser clip mics for use on kits, ATM650 and ATM250 hypercardioid dynamic instrument microphones, ATM450 cardiooid condenser instrument models, ATM410 and ATM610 dynamic vocal mics, and ATM710 condenser vocal mics.

“I’m really impressed with the Artist Series range of mic’s. They don’t colour the sound and they’re a dream to work with. I particularly love the ATM350 clip mics, which have replaced all my old favourite kit mics. They also helped to capture a great performance from an over active brass section that couldn’t help but dance around while playing!

“The ATM610 dynamic and ATM710 condenser are great vocal mic’s, I recently used the 710 for a thrash metal session and before I could even EQ the mic they said had never heard their vocal sound so good so I left it as is was. I now use the Artist Series mic’s on 70 per cent of my studio sessions.”

Bands from the Stands is a showcase of the best unsigned talent from the North West. The live sessions are aired on the Saturday morning programme, and are also shown on the Old Trafford in-house entertainment system on match days. Studio Monkeys is currently building a bigger live sound stage for the next series of Bands From The Stands, in a new purpose built live room.

Bands From The Stands currently goes out between 10 am and 12 pm on Good Morning Manchester on MUTV; online and on Sky and Virgin Media. For further information go to manutd.
