Most successful musical underway with Alcons

With 50.000 tickets sold in the first few days after the premiere, visited by Her Majesty Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands, Ciske de Rat – the Musical already scored its first record. The critics were unanimously praising. Now, over 6 months underway and running!, with around 400.000 tickets sold, it is the most successful travelling Dutch musical ever.

Not surprising then that this musical scored 7 awards out of the 13 nominations at the recent Musical Awards Gala 2008. Another record.

The musical, based on three books written by Piet Bakker in the Fourties, tells about the Amsterdam street rascal Ciske, having difficulty in finding his way in life, in the Thirties. The head role is interpreted by Danny de Munk, who already played the renowned character in the successful movie from 1984.

The sound design for Ciske the Musical was in the hands of Jeroen ten Brinke.

After having already successfully deployed Alcons pro-ribbon systems in earlier musicals like among others Beauty & the Beast, Rembrandt and The Wiz, Jeroen again designed a configuration on basis of Alcons sound systems, this time with LR14 ultra-compact line-array.

The sound system, with as particular characteristic a centrally flown left/right array for better imaging, consists of 2 arrays of each 12 units LR14 ultra-compact line-array (2x, 6.5 + RBN401 Pro-Ribbon) and 1 unit LR14B (2x 12 bandpass) line-array bass for the hindmost half of the groundfloor + balconies; For the first half of the groundfloor per side 4 units LR14 + 1 unit LR14B are stacked. 2 units BF302 (double 15 bass system) act as a separately sent bass system.

All loudspeakers are powered and controlled by Alcons' ALC2 and ALC4 Amplified Loudspeaker Controllers, with analogue SDP loudspeaker processing.

Besides a lifelike pro-ribbon sound quality, with very high gain-before-feedback and equal tonal balance on all SPL’s (important with very dynamic sources, like musicals), were not only the very compact format and light weight, but also the fast logistics of the system decisive in the choice.

The Ciske de Rat – the musical “caravan” requires no less than 7 trailers for decor, light- and sound equipment and will be visiting Netherlands’ 15 largest theatres until December 2008. As a result of the success, extra performances are being inserted into the planning.
