SOUND QUALIFICATION

This content is brought to you by Audiocourses dot com

This one semester programme consists of two modules that provide pathways into various industry positions as well as University courses. The programme is equally suited to those students already in work who seek to obtain a certificate of their competence.

The methodologies employed on this programme are to promote independent life long-learners that are self-directed and highly motivated, to achieve high quality work within strict and regular time frames. This is achieved through a high workload that contains many constructivist assignments in the field of new media.

Both module topics are varied and diverse utilising varying approaches to delivery. Hybrid skills are encouraged to represent the changing skill sets needed within the media industries. The majority of assignment work is coursework based, with the exception of two ‘closed-book’ examinations, which are timed. There is a high level of practical coursework encouragement, blended with academic research and writing.

Pastoral care is provided in both a formal structured manner along with a very relaxed informal manner to mirror the trends in the media industry. Additionally, the Audio Courses has Open Forums that provide ‘drop-in’ clinics to provide additional support for IT skills as well as specific modules topics. The City & Guilds Sound Engineering Part 3 is particularly suited to applicants that have an educational background in Music/Sound coupled with a strong desire to succeed in the media industries. Musical instrument experience is advantageous though certainly not essential.

Applications are considered on an individual basis depending on industrial experience and orientation to education.

Successful students from the City & Guilds Sound Engineering Part 3 often go into related jobs within industry. There have been numerous success stories of ex-students gaining employment in ‘top-flight’ recording studios. In addition to this, diplomats, with their hybrid skills, and high level of IT practice, are able to apply for a variety of post ranging from web-designer to research and design positions for audio companies.
