NEW LINEAR SOLID STATE NAGRA PORTABLES GO TO RICHMOND

This content is brought to you by Audiocourses dot com

Nagra-Kudelski has delivered the first two production models of its new NAGRA ARES-BB solid state, stereo desktop/ over-shoulder recorder to London-based Richmond Film Services. The units with serial numbers 001 and 002 were hand delivered, direct from the production line at Nagra-Kudelskis Cheseaux factory in Switzerland, by International Sales and Marketing Manager Grard Beuchat and International Regional Sales Manager John Owens.

Commenting on this acquisition, the latest in an unbroken series of first production Nagras, stretching back to the NAGRA-D, Richmond Film Services Nigel Woodford stated; "Its become quite a tradition for the first two Nagra production units to find their way into our inventory and with good reason. The ARES-BB is another example of Nagra recognising whats needed, whats possible, and then building it to last. The result is a very light, robust, good sounding and easy to use recorder, well suited for radio reporters and sound effects recording."

Richmond Film Services operates one of the worlds most extensive collections of Nagra recorders, with over 50 machines, including both working models and lovingly preserved historical machines like the NAGRA III. New additions include another two NAGRA V location recorders - purchased to meet rapidly expanding demand.

Commenting for Nagra-Kudelski, John Owens stated: "Nigel provides such excellent support and depth of knowledge about the entire range of Nagra recorders, that we always make sure hes first on the list. Often the best opportunity to try a new machine is to hire it and use in a real life situation. I think people will find that the ARES-BB very easy to use without instruction."

Derived from the popular ARES-P and with a feature set similar to that of the ARES-PII, the ARES-BB is deceptively light in weight at 900 g and is equipped with an expanded battery compartment, accepting 6 x AA cells or a Lithium Ion battery pack. The ARES-BB records 48 kHz stereo/16-bit PCM, via XLR mic/line inputs, onto either compact flash card or IBM microdrive. Use of the ubiquitous FAT16 Broadcast Wave (BWF) file format, enables files to be transferred to and played on almost all Windows and Mac OS based platforms without additional software. The proprietary ARES-BB operating system provides significant protection against virus transmission.

The ARES-BB has no moving parts, making it virtually maintenance free and reliable under the harshest environmental conditions underlined by its 3 year warranty. Notable upgrades from the ARES-P include a built in loudspeaker, separate line and headphone outputs, switchable 48 V phantom power, a new low cut filter, and a redesigned intelligent battery charger control. Software options are available that emulate RCX220/virtual PCX/USB and ARES-P/MPEG operation.
