Hi chris, here it's vlad. Thans a lot for your help and emails :). I'll read your mail about compression in the next days because I am in a band and I have some concerts these days here, what Id' like to read, if you have some stuff,
about compression, is final products (mastering compression), and if you know what plug-ins are better for mastering, I use a lot plug-ins because I don't have now enough money to by a finalizer from tcworks . Nice to meet you , cu , by . thx.
Vlad hi and thanks for that mail. I thought I'd take the opportunity to post here the introduction to "Compression What The F*** Is It?". You may be interested in this as it covers some interesting information about mastering as well as compression itself.
Compression, for me, is one of those areas of audio recording that is often considered a "black art". For me the strangest thing about compression is that I often wonder how I managed without it. I remember the days when the word "compression" was thrown around in a fairly flippant manner, you know in the pub with guys talking about their bass drum sound and how this compressed signal was amazing, blah, blah, blah, yawn, yawn.
However, it is only in recent years that I have fully grasped the concept of compression as being on of the most valuable, (if not the most valuable) tolls in an audio engineer/producers arsenal. Compression really is a make or break process that can, in the right hands, provide that professional "gloss" that is often missing in home recording. In order to fully understand compression you will find a detailed breakdown of the various components here, although to be frank, there is no substitute for getting your hands dirty and twisting all the dials, experimenting and listening hard.
As you follow this tutorial, please do remember that in any audio engineering application/process there is no "correct" way to do something. Audio engineering is a unique field embracing both creative and technical skills and if you fall into the trap of trying to apply "rules" then you will not, in my opinion, produce art.
