AudioCourses.com is an Online Audio Recording School offering recognised audio qualifications. One of the qualifications is the well-known and popular City & Guilds 1820 Sound Engineering Part 3. This course has been in existence for more than 15 years in colleges across the UK, but the idea of transferring the course to a distance- learning mode of delivery was initiated by Chris Hambly (director of AudioCourses.com) in conjunction with John Mizzi, head of Sound Engineering International, the external verifier for the course.
The course is constructed and manage with all the latest educational methodologies and techniques for Open and Distance Learning (ODL), as director Chris Hambly studied his masters with the world famous Institute of Educational Technology, who specialise in training clients for distance learning course management. How it works?
The course is 15 weeks in duration, running twice yearly, with entry points in September and February of each year. Students become part of a virtual cohort comprised of learners from literally all corners of the globe. This year saw students studying together from as far a field as L.A., Canada, Portugal, Ireland, and even Hull.
Students engage in weekly tasks, which are both theoretically and practically based where they all work towards a common goal of preparing
themselves for two written examinations in Recording Techniques and Music Technology. The examinations are actually not taken online but in a local state registered institution, such as a school or college. "We have a growing network of available institutions and we find most colleges will
happily invigilate the two exams for our students for a token fee", states Chris Hambly.
