Martin Atkins teams up with Presonus and bubbles enthusiastically about the benefits of being in the “now”. The main point he puts over here is that promotion is now all about you YOU, taking responsibility yourself, not entering into a blame culture and being highly self-directed to achieve your ambitions, could be a very useful stance, what do you think?

Today I got the Black Album out again after a long long break from listening to it, I mean it must be literally years since I have turned up the office monitors whilst listening to this!

The album was a complete departure (production wise) from anything Metallica had done previously, more than likely as a result of teaming up with the talents of Bob Rock.

The reason I am telling you about this delight is that the album is a fine example of Kick Drum EQ. Sure it is an acquired taste and you’d never catch a “jazzer” using such extreme processing as this, but nonetheless if you are seeking some influence for the baddest kick drum eq of all time(?), check it out.

In addition what would you add to the list of bad ass kick drum eq?

Drums can be such a tricky instrument to “nail”, that often less microphones can in fact be more!

If you’ve ever tried to record drums with lots of microphones you will be aware that a “phase issue” typically rears its ugly head and can bring on some serious comb filtering, which to cut a long story short sounds nasty!

The RecorderMan Technique is one such method which is quick, easy and phase coherent, which usually always yields good results, watch the video and give it a try!
