Answer
·  What is the duration of the course?

All our school courses are run over 15 weeks with three start points a year. January, April, September.

·  How do I plan for my studies?

There are no entry requirements for our courses but you need to be sure in yourself that you are suitably prepared for study at each level, we run courses at varying levels from beginner right throught to the equivalent of 1st, 2nd and 3rd year degree.

Although you are free to register for our courses we believe that most students will benefit from starting a course they will complete. You will need to develop good study habits and general learning skills as well as be aware that you may need to introduce special requirements typical of part-time study into your life.

Students on our courses are given more help with preparation and more tutorial and counselling support than is available on most other courses as we have a long history in Distance Education (DE).

Our courses present material in a manner whereby it is assumed you have the necessary background before you register. You are strongly advised to find out what will be required of you before you commit yourself.

Audiocourses.com wishes to encourage you to use our qualification awards in as many ways as are academically relevant and appropriate. At the same time we need to ensure that each qualification awarded testifies to the completion of a certain minimum amount of work.

·  Can I get credit from previous study?

The short answer is no you cannot. However, during your application Audio Courses will certainly look for a general audio/musical background as a means of offering you a place on the course. Your previous study may well be the ticket onto our course.

·  How do I prepare for distance education?

What you need to do to get ready for your course will depend on your own experience of study, the course and your current knowledge in the subject area. Please ensure you download our starter pack for checking this.

There are specific things you can do to get ready for your course. Such as reading some of the articles we have on studying at a distance.

You will also need to get yourself organised so you get your course off to a good start. This may include brushing up on your study skills.

If you haven't studied with Audio Courses before, get to know us before your course starts.

If you haven't studied for some time, consider downloading some of our learning material and getting yourself engrossed with the idea of learning.

If you have a disability or health problem and may want additional support, organise this now - let us know.

·  Where will I study?

You will need to find a place to study and put your Audio Courses materials. You may be fortunate and organised with a study right in your home. However, if you don’t, you should consider the practicalities of studying at a distance in your home environment. Family pressures can add additional stress.

·  When will I study?

Study takes time, and lack of time is something students mention as their biggest problem. The time you can spend on studying will vary from week to week and so will the demands of the course. It takes time and effort to complete assignments, so when they're due you'll have to find more time. You will need to fit study around other commitments and holiday periods. Start thinking about these things now: Will you have to change or reduce the time you spend on other activities? Will your friends and family need to adjust their expectations? If you are concerned that an event, like moving house, might interfere with your study you can contact your tutor (if you already know who that is) .

·  I do not live in the UK, how can I take the exams?

We can arrange for you to go to an official educational institute near you (such as a school or college) to sit your exams. There may be a very small invigilation fee payable by you for this option.

·  How does it rate as an international qualification?

We offer qualifications that enable individuals and organisations all over the world to achieve their educational aims.

They provide progressive patterns, giving the candidates a choice from basic knowledge up to the highest level of competence.

Our vocational qualifications are globally recognised and benefit people worldwide. They allow candidates to use theoretical and practical skills they have acquired to gain employment, as an entry to higher education or as a means to individual growth.

·  What are the prospects of a job?

Naturally for us to say you are guaranteed a job would be foolish. Sound Engineering is one of the most competitive industries to work in so you must be highly motivated. However, what we can state is that our method is highly respected and which would stand you head and shoulders above someone without it. It could be that ticket!

·  I want to start my own audio business, would this help?

Yes of course. Having the experience of online learning behind you is a highly enriching experience that can only benefit you short term and long term, both in terms of the actual content you will learn and the skills you obtain towards life-long learning.

You will also meet and interact with other students from all over the world, sharing your unique cultures and backgrounds.

·  Will it help me as a musician?

Regardless of your instrument you will find this course really expands and challenges your knowledge of the subject to such an extent that you may find it hard cramming it all in.

Online study is tough, with a high workload, and you must be ready for 15 weeks of hard study. Your knowledge of recording and composition will expand rapidly and you will soon find you are completely absorbed in your learning.

·  I only want to learn a little bit is this the right course?

Absolutely not! This course is ONLY for serious people that want to learn and will commit in a serious manner. You will not succeed unless you are seeking that next challenge in your life!

·  How are the courses structured?

The courses are structured into 15 weekly topics.

·  What is the learning environment, is it online and interactive?

Yes, this is an online course, but not in the way that some lower grade courses are that are merely text based.

Audio Courses provides LIVE WORKSHOPS where you log on and actually chat with your Production Advisors weekly and then work away on your weekly assignment before class next week.

·  What are the class sizes?

We do not enrol any more than 12 students in each set of classes. This in our opinion is enough for quality education to take place, but not too many to reduce time per student/instructor.

·  How many instructors are there?

Each group is assigned one Production Advisor (mentor).

·  Are Audio Courses instructors qualified?

Yes, all staff are professional educators within audio engineering, instructing students to degree level and beyond. All staff have higher qualifications as well as teaching qualifications and have been students themselves.

·  Are you specialists in distance education practise?

Yes our Director Christopher Hambly is qualified to Masters level in the field of Open and Distance Education and currently studying for Doctorate in education.

Training took place with the world-renowned Institute of Educational Technology (IET), which is affiliated with the Open University, England where he completed his Masters. The MA ODE course is known as the best in the field worldwide, and championed for its excellence!

Do not be fooled by "promise everything" distance courses, we ARE professionals in distance learning AND in sound!

N.B. Some courses may advertise audio engineers as traineers, but, they will NOT be educational specialists in this field!

·  Can I take these courses anywhere in the world?

Yes you can, there is no country restriction, if you can pay you can study.

·  How do I know that I can trust this company?

AUDIOCOURSES.COM is owned by SAE Institute located at Littlemore Park, Armstrong Road, Littlemore, Oxford, United Kingdom, OX4 4FY, Phone: +44 (0) 845 017 9044

·  Does my internet computer need to be capable of audio input and output?

No, your internet computer is only needed for the live Workshops and online researching. It would help though if you had a basic audio editor for stereo tracks and mp3.

·  Can I schedule online sessions, or will I have to accommodate your time zones?

Our live sessions take place at various times, we look at each group and those involved and try hard to accommodate a mutually convenient time.
