Behringer Help  Reply with quote

I consider myself still a fledgling in this Sound Engineering World with 2 years behind me now. I own an Audiophile 24/96 soundcard, a good strong PC, an A.R.T. Tube Studio MP Mic Preamp and some Behringer B2031A Truth Monitors. So far so good. I've recently bought a Behringer UB1002 Mixer to which I'm finding might not be the right piece of equipment for me. I can't seem to get all of the routing possibilities cemented down. I'm finding I'm repatching for different assignments. My old way of recording, I used an amp and passive speakers, so I could mute the Mains (Passive Speakers) while recording and thus the ability to track and monitor with Phones. Now, with the B2031's (Active Monitors) I've given up that "Main Muting" option.
If anyone is familiar with the UB Mixer series, I would really appreciate some input as to how I will be routing my signal from the UB1002 to the soundcard and then back out to the UB1002 again for monitoring.
BTW: I've heard a lot of bad press about Behringer ; what is all the fuss about? The specs for the UB series look outstanding for such an inexpensive piece of hardware.

Cheers

Rick
p.s. I use Cubase SX as my sequencing and recording software.

I agree with your comments on the feature set of Behringer kit. While not featuring some high-end features or the best components/quality - what you get for your money in my opinion (and budget!) is fantastic.

Although I don't have a UB1002 - I have got 2 Behringer mixers so here goes...

I think your saying that you want to record through the desk (main out's to your soundcard?) and listen to what's being played on the PC at the same time via the desk as well? (soundcard -> desk -> monitors) Is this right?

If so I think your in for a tough time as I don't think the UB1002 has selectable outputs per channel (i.e. you can't choose where the channel output goes - it just goes straight to the main mix) - so you couldn't feed the sound card output back in as it would just be sent back to the main mix and recorded along with your source.

If you can, have a look at the UB1204-Pro on the Behringer website. It has Alt3/4 selectors on each channel and a selectable Control Room source - which would allow you to record via channel 1 and monitor via channel 2 switched to Alt3/4 and run through the Control Room outs.

Does this help?

Thanks for the reply !

Yes, you answered my question pretty much to the "T". I have come to the conclusion that I can't do what I want to do with this particular board. What I'm doing right now instead is, tracking through a separate preamp into my soundcard and then coming out of the card into Tape Ins on the Behringer. I'll check out that 1204 Pro you mentioned.
Thanks again for your help- it is appreciated.
