Reinstalling windows XP for a fresh start  Reply with quote

Hi

I currently run a pretty solid PC with the drives divided for media and audio. I’ve found that service pack two has slowed things down a little but I need it alongside Zone alarm for the internet security.

However I was thinking that if I reinstalled XP and then updated my PC it would run better? As the registry and windows files were likely to be full of crap in there present state.

My question is this. If I do this will I only lose all the data on my C drive and keep the data on my D or will I lose all data. Hence having to backup all my audio files.

Thanks for the help.

Chris,
reinstalling Windows will only affect the C: drive on your computer.
Your D: drive won't lose any data.

Re: SP2, if you are running Zone Alarm then turn off the Windows Firewall as the Firewall in SP2 is essentially a cut down version of Zone Alarm.

Every year or so I will format my C: drive and reinstall Windows just to keep the machine running smoothly.

Hope this helps,
ben m

it'll be better if you can have the internet activities seperated from working with music ... and always have your audio files backed up ...
