band recorded using this equipment  Reply with quote

OK I am wanting to record my band. I have a tascam US-122, Cubase SX(still dont know how to use it. I am a newbie!)

What is the best way to get my band recorded using this equipment? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Mike,

What are you recording (intruments, vocals etc) and what are you hoping to achieve in terms of sound/quality etc?

Well we have keys, vocals, drums, guitar and bass. I would like to record a few of our songs to use as a demo to give to club promoters. Doesnt have to be perfect quality but something that is decent enough for this purpose.

Am I correct in thinking that the US-122 has 2 inputs?

I work for a 15 piece band who think that money is something that should be given to them...not spent by them Rolling Eyes so studio time is out of the question.

When we started doing out own recordings I ran everything bar the vocals through the desk - got a nice sound from there - and recorded the output (main outs). We then added the vocals on top of that. It takes some time and patience as a) nobody can make a mistake - cause you can't edit it out! and b) you need to get the balance right first. If you have time, have a listen to "It's Not Unusual" at www.swing-shift.co.uk/Promo/promo.htm as this was recorded in exactly the manner described.

Something else that we tried was to record a basic track first then get individual instruments to "play along" and record the instruments individually - this obviously gives you much more control but is very time consuming as you inevitably have to nudge everyone into time.

Would this work for yourselves?
