Not exactly sure if this is the right place to post this, but It must be pretty close.
I was reading a book in our college library, about different jobs in the music industry. But what is the difference between a Gig Promoter and a Booking agent?? I couldnt seem to understand what the difference is! Perhaps someone could explain to me? Thanks

Descriptions
From what I understand (this may be different in the USA) a booking agent is the guy/girl who will have a large database of acts in their office, for a number of different styles. They may have a comedian section and a wedding band section etc. Venues and groups of people will contact them for a particular "type" of entertainment.
A gig promoter is the person working to promote an actual gig or event, usually of some size, taking care of publicity and merchandising contracts etc.
