| still get amateur sound |

My name is Ouiji. I'm not so new to recording but i still get amateur sound!!!
My problem is that none of my recordings have that closeness that i hear from other artists. I am trying to get a basic approximation on mixer settings for vocals, compression settings, and bass eqing. I am currently working on an album for a friend of mine and i want to at least have a great starting point. The problem might be that i am recording on 16-bit/44.1 khz MR-8. Anyhow heres what i use..
Behringer B-1 Condenser mic (vocals/Voiceovers)
into
Behringer 6-channel Eurorack mixer without effects or imp's
into
Alesis single channel NANO-Compressor
out to
Fostex MR-8 mutitrack.
For instruments i don't have REAL instruments so i use a
KORG Electribe EM-1 going straight into MR-8 (sometimes into mixer then Mr- .
And A Yamaha PSR293 portable grand. (i don't really use mixer on this either.
At end of recording i mix down on Mr8. (should i mixdown to my Fostex X12 4-track tape then use compression and eq, as well as effects, then record back into mr-8?)
Any HELP is greatly appreciated. |

You should be able to get some reasonably good sounds with the gear you have.
Typically a good sound is achieved by starting with a good sound, you know "good in" equals "good out", so try to get that correct.
What style of production are you after? _________________ It's all in the ears. - Learn the concepts not the software.
