Will a base-model iMac and Protools LE give me enough grunt for about 16 tracks with heaps of effects? |

the iMac i'm looking at has a 1.6 processor, a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Ultra w/64MB video memory, 1GB DDR400 SDRAM (the 1GB isn't base, I want to up it). I'd be running Protools LE, amplitube on a few tracks, T-Racks ideally on loads of tracks. |

If you're wanting to run t-racks and amplitube (i'm assuming you're talking about the bundled with pro tools software) then your going to need plenty of CPU power. 1GB Ram sounds about right and I think you might even just get away with a 1.6 ghz cpu.
You computers response will start to slow down if your using functions like quick punch to do overdubs and things like that... so you might want to spend a little more on a low end dual G5 instead. Depends how patient you are I suppose.
Failing that... scratch build your own audio PC system and save a fortune. |
