Serching for movie audio recording equipment  Reply with quote

Hi!

I am searching for a mic, mic cover (wind protection) and a boom stick for recording audio for movies.
The mic should cover general sounds as speech and ambiental sounds, and will be used with a digital MiniDv camera.
I am a rookie in this wide professional area with a not very big budget, but quality is still a strong factor.

Gratefull for info!

List a budget and it will be easier for people to help you.

(see http://www.dic-lj.com/pozitiv2005/index.htm )

I am thinking about 700$ to 1000$ max, but i am not shure. I am looking for a semi pro or professional device if the price range allows it.

PD150 by any chance?

I would recommend trying to get hold of an ENG field mixer, make sure it has a built in VU or PPM meter. They are expensive so i suggest looking second hand, they often come up on Ebay. You may already have one? but its a very important piece of kit, the audio controls on most miniDV cameras are a joke to be honest.

In your price range the Audio-technica Shotguns/rifle mics are a good place to start, i have ordered an at815b so i will let you know what i think of it when it arrives. The windshield supplied may be good enough for you, the professional "dead cat" windscreens can be very expensive, again look second hand, or making your own could be an option?

As for the boom, most pro tripod manufacturers sell them, e.g. manfrotto

Hope thats a good start, the best advice i can give is to do lots of research, ask around, find out what other fil-makers in your area are using.

happy hunting
-Paul

P.S. The most popular pro windshields seem to be Rycote Softies. they have built in handles so you can use them handheld or on a boom, no doubt u can buy cheaper imitated versions that do the same job Rycote Softie Website
