I just started using adobe audition. I can do the basic multi-track recording, but can't figure out how to use the effects (like distortion, reverb etc.). Is there a basic manual or tutorial type thing I can use online that would help me learn more about this program.

Altough the software has a bundled manual which is quite straightforward, you can try www.adobe.com where registered users may access that type of things (manuals, tutorials, etc.).

Kind Regards,

Learn the concepts  Reply with quote

I would suggest you learn how to use effects processors generally, it is irrelevant whether they are on your PC or in your rack, they do the same thing either way.

Once you know the concepts behind the effects it will be easy to work out which pot does what in audition. Also, try experimenting, load a piece of music you know well then select a preset from the list, watch what changes on the screen and listen to the difference in the sound.

If you have the background knowledge and you experiment, you will pick it up very quickly.

I am an acoustic kind of guy so effects are definately new to me. The advice of actually learning about how the different effects work is good. I can do the experimenting myself, but where can I find something I can read about different effects.

Open the project song, and at the leftmost of track click with mouse and drag to the end of track or rightmost to highlight it then goto your effects tab open whatever your choice and a window will open to the feature you chose you can perform changes on your own or use the presets, there's a preview button so you can listen to changes before making them permanent. hope this helps
