(22:04:12): audiocoursesc has joined the conference.
acousticalweaponsdivision (22:04:42): hello there
mrbisto (22:05:11): hi there
acousticalweaponsdivision (22:05:21): heh lots of us here this week
acousticalweaponsdivision (22:06:05): i wonder where they are hiding
mrbisto (22:06:46): How's it going?
acousticalweaponsdivision (22:07:03): yeah not bad actually
mrbisto (22:07:12): Good stuff..
acousticalweaponsdivision (22:07:31): been remixing a track for some UK doom band this week
mrbisto (22:07:37): realy?
mrbisto (22:07:42): sounds interesting
acousticalweaponsdivision (22:07:5Cool: well, remixing is possibly the wrong word
acousticalweaponsdivision (22:08:13): sonic destroying maybe
mrbisto (22:08:17): It's a term which can be used widely
mrbisto (22:08:19): ohh
mrbisto (22:08:32): what's a doom band?
acousticalweaponsdivision (22:08:53): doom metal type stuff
mrbisto (22:09:01): doom?
acousticalweaponsdivision (22:09:37): hmm think kind of black sabbath but at 3 bpm with very distorted guitar
acousticalweaponsdivision (22:09:50): thats kind of what they sound like
mrbisto (22:09:50): I find labels fairly difficult to comprehend
mrbisto (22:09:57): 3bpm, sounds slow
acousticalweaponsdivision (22:10:23): its not exactly easy listening
acousticalweaponsdivision (22:10:42): but then my tastes are quite underground
mrbisto (22:10:49): lol
acousticalweaponsdivision (22:12:27): did a few reinterpretations/remixes for a US dark ambient band Bonechurch not so long back
acousticalweaponsdivision (22:13:04): plus they did a few remixes of some of my stuff
mrbisto (22:13:16): ah an exchange.. sounds like fun
acousticalweaponsdivision (22:13:32): heh which sounded a lot better than my original tracks in my opinion
acousticalweaponsdivision (22:14:0Cool: though i guess youre always slightly down on your own music to some extent
acousticalweaponsdivision (22:14:17): heh well I am anyway
mrbisto (22:14:27): I guess so...
mrbisto (22:14:33): other opinions are good...
acousticalweaponsdivision (22:15:07): yeah, a different viewpoint is always handy
mrbisto (22:15:47): It can be difficult to "close off" a track
mrbisto (22:15:5Cool: There is always something that can be fixed
mrbisto (22:17:49): I'm seeing nobody esle on my contact list!
acousticalweaponsdivision (22:18:4Cool: i wonder where they all are?
acousticalweaponsdivision (22:19:20): anyone from the UK is probably out getting plastered as its bank holiday weekend
mrbisto (22:19:27): ohhhh
mrbisto (22:19:34): yes I had forgotten that!!
acousticalweaponsdivision (22:19:52): heh except me that is
mrbisto (22:20:02): so what's your excuse?
acousticalweaponsdivision (22:20:20): i'm boring and dont drink
acousticalweaponsdivision (22:20:34): havent done for years
mrbisto (22:20:39): Good for you!
mrbisto (22:20:49): Tis over rated
mrbisto (22:20:59): hey..
mrbisto (22:21:01): Check this out
mrbisto (22:21:03): http://www.audiocourses.com/blog/
acousticalweaponsdivision (22:23:46): hehe synchronous debate on duck noises and bmw horns
mrbisto (22:24:07): nice.. too funny
mrbisto (22:24:59): I find blog culutre really interesting
(22:25:25): instinct27651982 has joined the conference.
mrbisto (22:25:40): Yeah blog culture is fun..
acousticalweaponsdivision (22:25:51): aha there is 3 of us now
instinct27651982 (22:25:53): sup acoustical..
mrbisto (22:26:00): One of the recent discoveries I found was audioblogging with a phone
acousticalweaponsdivision (22:26:05): hello there
instinct27651982 (22:26:10): how goes?
(22:26:46): x016178 has joined the conference.
acousticalweaponsdivision (22:26:46): not bad sir
acousticalweaponsdivision (22:26:50): you?
x016178 (22:26:56): Hi all!
mrbisto (22:27:00): hi brent

instinct27651982 (22:27:21): if im not mistaken
mrbisto (22:28:10): PMA = Production Mixing Mastering
acousticalweaponsdivision (22:28:23): just doing music technology at the moment
instinct27651982 (22:28:30): ahh ok.. my bad then
instinct27651982 (22:28:40): what about u brent?
acousticalweaponsdivision (22:28:46): aha i did wonder what pma was for a minute
x016178 (22:28:49): doing both.
x016178 (22:28:59): REcording techniques and recording technology
mrbisto (22:29:03): both = Recording Techniques and Music Technology
mrbisto (22:29:11): oops sorry brent, beat me too it
mrbisto (22:29:37): Insinct has done that course.. both of them
instinct27651982 (22:29:41): hows it goin with that right now?
x016178 (22:30:03): I'm learning a huge amount not having had much experience.
x016178 (22:30:1Cool: I love learning about the mastering
x016178 (22:30:30): I find myself listening to even crap song in a whole new way.
mrbisto (22:30:41): thta's very good to hear brent
x016178 (22:30:42): Its opened a huge appreciation for music.
instinct27651982 (22:30:51): nice
mrbisto (22:30:56): here, even....
mrbisto (22:31:13): What things are you listening for now?
x016178 (22:31:34): For me, loudness, how they handle the bass.
x016178 (22:31:47): What is drowning out the drums and decisions they make on what takes precedence.
instinct27651982 (22:31:4Cool: chris..u had it right the first time i believe..
mrbisto (22:32:03): Brent when you say "they" you should phrase that as "me"
mrbisto (22:32:19): I did instinct, nice work..
x016178 (22:32:41): Yeah How I handle the bass.
mrbisto (22:32:44): My excuse is I have a sore knee , the pain is a distraction.
mrbisto (22:33:20): Instinct, how do YOU handle the bass?
mrbisto (22:33:5Cool: I recall we mastered something last year, what was that track?
instinct27651982 (22:34:19): i usually make my stuff just a little bass heavy so when mastering they can take away as much as they see fit
mrbisto (22:34:43): Oh I remember you send yours out for mastering?
instinct27651982 (22:35:33): well im using The Travisty EP as a reference since thats the last big project i sent out for mastering.. and the results were really nice
instinct27651982 (22:36:02): but bass is really fear not being right in the mix..
instinct27651982 (22:36:13): what i fear.. it should say
instinct27651982 (22:36:24): so i spend alot of time on that
x016178 (22:36:43): http://www.butterroom.com/travistyep.htm ?
instinct27651982 (22:36:53): yeah
instinct27651982 (22:37:26): if u check my folder on the Audiocourses FTP i think there's two tracks there in CD quality yall can listen to
instinct27651982 (22:37:32): from the EP
mrbisto (22:38:27): Which reminds me... there will be MP3 upload for users on audiocourses.com soon.
acousticalweaponsdivision (22:38:44): cool, I'll have a look in your folder
instinct27651982 (22:39:06): chris..good idea.. in the forums or???
acousticalweaponsdivision (22:39:10): hehe so we can annoy you with our noisy music?
x016178 (22:39:24): I'm listening to the quest goes on and world wide feat. Very impressive.
instinct27651982 (22:39:49): thanks
mrbisto (22:40:12): instinct, complete "musicians account" , bio, pics, MP3, etc.. and can be linked easily in forums
x016178 (22:41:00): I'm curious. How many people did you have collaborating on the production of quest goes on?
instinct27651982 (22:41:59): for the beat u mean? i did that myself
instinct27651982 (22:42:10): and its me and travisty rappin on it
instinct27651982 (22:42:1Cool: i recorded the vocals too and mixed everything
x016178 (22:42:44): I like how your voice comes through. Would you explain the techniques you used for that?
x016178 (22:42:5Cool: Microphone... vst.. any other equipment?
acousticalweaponsdivision (22:46:07): hmm cant seem to listen to that mp3
instinct27651982 (22:46:15): oh for sure.. my mic is a Rode NT1000 and i ran it through a Focusrite Trackmaster preamp (mind u now i just got an Avalon VT737 SP tube pre hehe) and i used a nuendo de-esser. then i used a eq (cambridge eq) and the 1176LN compressor from the UAD1 DSP card
instinct27651982 (22:46:40): plus a little reverb from my vm3100pro mixer
acousticalweaponsdivision (22:46:46): oh, its downloading it
acousticalweaponsdivision (22:46:59): doh, a homer simpson moment there
mrbisto (22:47:49): nuendo de-esser, how sis that dude?
(22:48:2Cool: reynola31 has joined the conference.
x016178 (22:48:46): I'm using a sennheimer e845s and just not getting the sound I'm looking for. I don't use a preamp // it goes right into my 828 firewire sound card. Thanks for the tip!
acousticalweaponsdivision (22:48:54): listening to worldwide now
instinct27651982 (22:49:04): i like it..used it on the lowest level though not too much.. plus its really simple, there isnt too many things to set..just male/female and then the amount. cant really chose frequencies but it worked out well
acousticalweaponsdivision (22:49:31): while its not really my thing the sound is real good
acousticalweaponsdivision (22:49:42): bass sounds great through my sub
reynola31 (22:50:0Cool: hi all sorry to be late!!
acousticalweaponsdivision (22:50:2Cool: hello there
x016178 (22:50:2Cool: Chris, would you say most professional sound recording use preamps and condensors?
x016178 (22:50:34): For vocals?
mrbisto (22:50:36): Brent, No.
instinct27651982 (22:50:42): hey renola..
x016178 (22:50:47): Hey reynola!
reynola31 (22:51:02): hey
mrbisto (22:51:13): I think Pre-amps, or the argumnt of "pre-amps" has come into it;s own since the availability of recording systems in the home..
mrbisto (22:51:2Cool: before that, most engineers just relied on their desks mic-amps...
instinct27651982 (22:51:47): my desk micpres stinks
instinct27651982 (22:51:51): really do
mrbisto (22:52:00): instince you have a cheap desk
mrbisto (22:52:05): no?
instinct27651982 (22:52:12): yeah
instinct27651982 (22:52:16): sure do
mrbisto (22:52:16): there we go...
mrbisto (22:52:1Cool: hehe
instinct27651982 (22:52:39): but it sounds really good except the pre's
mrbisto (22:52:40): most engineers in a pro studio have nice cirucuits in the desk already.
mrbisto (22:52:4Cool: ya know?
x016178 (22:53:02): for example...?
x016178 (22:53:23): 828 has a circuit in the desk right?
mrbisto (22:53:26): for example pro desks?
x016178 (22:53:34): Ah.
mrbisto (22:54:33): Pre-amps....... have been a "home recording" issue really...
mrbisto (22:54:49): due to cheal circuits in sound cards etc..
mrbisto (22:55:01): cheap, I should say...
x016178 (22:55:17): Is a motu 828 considered cheap?
mrbisto (22:55:24): hehe
x016178 (22:55:33): It hurt to pay for it
mrbisto (22:55:34): it's not my job to mention different types..
mrbisto (22:55:44): how much was it?
x016178 (22:56:14): 800 Euros
mrbisto (22:56:30): My friend recently bought a second hand Trident desk for his commercial studio...
mrbisto (22:56:33): guess how much?
x016178 (22:57:03): looking on the internet now..
mrbisto (22:57:55): You are talking hundreds
mrbisto (22:57:59): of thousands of pounds
x016178 (22:58:17): lordy.
mrbisto (22:58:20): I know
acousticalweaponsdivision (22:58:33): ouch, bit out of my price range there
mrbisto (22:58:44): http://www.sawmills.co.uk
mrbisto (22:58:51): Well, the point is.....
instinct27651982 (22:59:04): chris is that an analogue desk?
mrbisto (22:59:07): Home recording is massively different to commercial worlds
mrbisto (22:59:16): I don;t mean in exposure or deals...
mrbisto (22:59:31): I mean in gear availability and methods
instinct27651982 (23:00:45): what soundcard u using chris?
x016178 (23:00:50): But given that it was invented in 74, it seems like home systems might be able to have caught up/surpassed this.
mrbisto (23:00:54): Depends where I am ...
mrbisto (23:01:03): Brent...
mrbisto (23:01:12): systems and catchng up ... hmmmm m
mrbisto (23:01:32): There is a certain "sound" in those EQ circuits..
mrbisto (23:01:39): did you ever listen to the band Mews?
x016178 (23:02:05): No.
mrbisto (23:02:2Cool: That studio has become renownded for a certain "sound"
mrbisto (23:02:37): Much of which is the engineer/producer
mrbisto (23:02:46): but alot of it is also the room and the gear.
mrbisto (23:03:25): know what I mean?
x016178 (23:03:36): So you could tell right off that instinct was using a home recording setup?
mrbisto (23:04:11): Instinct operates in a market which is miles away from what Sawmills studios do...
mrbisto (23:04:31): In fact instinct is operating in a market with the correct gear.. to compete
instinct27651982 (23:04:36): and on another budget
mrbisto (23:04:50): But I'd love to hear instinct record a live band..
mrbisto (23:04:5Cool: no offence dude... you know what i mean...
instinct27651982 (23:05:1Cool: so chris which soundcard are u using for music where u are now?
mrbisto (23:05:32): I use different ones.. depending where I am...
mrbisto (23:05:3Cool: often I use none...
mrbisto (23:05:45): I love the system Soundscape///
mrbisto (23:05:51): Doesn't have a soundcard
mrbisto (23:06:1Cool: well the PC has a card for an interface, a controller but not audio.
mrbisto (23:07:00): The PC and audio.....
mrbisto (23:07:17): is a small part of the Pro industry.. you guys wanna think bigger really...
mrbisto (23:07:36): For example ever heard of Otari?
acousticalweaponsdivision (23:07:55): hmm cant say that I have
mrbisto (23:08:01): http://www.audiocourses.com/article1169.html
instinct27651982 (23:08:50): price?
mrbisto (23:08:5Cool: That's some piece of technology!
mrbisto (23:09:26): very very very expensive
acousticalweaponsdivision (23:09:27): damn i want one
mrbisto (23:09:51): It's a sexy item that
mrbisto (23:11:0Cool: I'd like to haul you all into a commercial studio sometime...
mrbisto (23:11:21): perhaps we need anual Audiocourses.com get togethers..
instinct27651982 (23:11:27): will the otari give u a better sound than recording the same thing onto a pc harddrive through a pro soundcard?
x016178 (23:11:46): 24 bit is 24 bit yeah?
mrbisto (23:11:51): brent.. in terms of digits no...
mrbisto (23:11:54): but...
mrbisto (23:12:25): The whole way people work, engineers, producers and their creative flow is paramount to capturin the "music"
mrbisto (23:12:44): how many times you been fighting with bloated plug-ins menus?
mrbisto (23:12:53): can't fins the effect at the "moment"
mrbisto (23:13:4Cool: hehe
x016178 (23:13:51): The plug ins would be the same on this system as in cubase no?
x016178 (23:14:01): laptop I mean.
mrbisto (23:14:16): brent you need to think about peopels working patterns..
mrbisto (23:14:29): an engineer working with analoge tape all his life....
mrbisto (23:14:35): pressing play at the moment,,,
mrbisto (23:14:3Cool: capturing
mrbisto (23:14:42): the special stuff
mrbisto (23:15:14): It's so hard to explain if you have never used these patterns in your work...
mrbisto (23:15:47): Aside form these types of macines
x016178 (23:15:49): Yeah. I can imagine an advantage is you have preprogrammed controls to the basic midi but still have to repogram it everytime you add a plug in.
mrbisto (23:15:54): think about dedicated hardware
x016178 (23:16:0Cool: I'm having a big problem right now with using my b-contrpler fader bcf2000 to do what I want to do for Cubase.
mrbisto (23:16:11): many engineers STILL use hardware....
mrbisto (23:16:13): not software
mrbisto (23:16:17): racks full of gear
mrbisto (23:16:24): I mean racks and racks
mrbisto (23:16:44): however....
mrbisto (23:17:01): with heaps and heaps of gear...... and all the latest "version"
mrbisto (23:17:12): you'l not get "that" sound....
mrbisto (23:17:33): "THAT" sound comes from experience of using the system you have.. whatever it is...
mrbisto (23:17:59): and utilising it in a way to let the "musical message" come over..
instinct27651982 (23:18:06): thats true..
mrbisto (23:18:16): that's the bottom line Brent...
mrbisto (23:18:25): don;t ever get carried away with "gear"
instinct27651982 (23:18:55): chris, doesnt it get confusing when u have racks and racks of gear like a whole selection of top grade a compressors and then deciding which one to use on a specific project?
mrbisto (23:19:22): nah...
mrbisto (23:19:26): I just know..
mrbisto (23:19:51): plug it in....
mrbisto (23:19:54): listen
mrbisto (23:19:56): ditch it
mrbisto (23:19:59): or stick wiv it
instinct27651982 (23:20:1Cool: go through everything or just stop when u find a sound u like?
mrbisto (23:20:27): stop when i dig it
mrbisto (23:20:49): Guys
mrbisto (23:20:57): It's ALL in the ears ....
x016178 (23:21:01): I read an interesting use of midi.
x016178 (23:21:11): When playing around with presets on your analog
x016178 (23:21:25): trying to determine what lfo rate to oscillate, cut off,
x016178 (23:21:35): You start recording
x016178 (23:21:44): at the moment you start your session
x016178 (23:21:50): And when you dig it stop.
mrbisto (23:22:07): good words
x016178 (23:22:12): A particular problem with my korg ms2000
mrbisto (23:22:15): Dig it like huggy bear, time to stop.
x016178 (23:22:23):
mrbisto (23:22:40): You can't really learn that stuff....
mrbisto (23:22:44): you can learn techniques
mrbisto (23:22:50): you can learn listening stuff..
mrbisto (23:22:57): you can learn processes....
mrbisto (23:23:15): but you can't learn. "THIS DIGS" leave it now.....
mrbisto (23:23:36): It requires a certain "faith", I guess...
mrbisto (23:23:45): and that comes with experience too.
instinct27651982 (23:24:19): preach on!
x016178 (23:24:27):
mrbisto (23:24:43): The more you are exposed to (or one is), in terms of different sounds and audible experiences, they beter we are able to communite that message...
mrbisto (23:24:52): lol
mrbisto (23:24:59): instinct bite me boy..!
acousticalweaponsdivision (23:25:22): hehe the preacher man
instinct27651982 (23:25:26): ouch.. why so rude now?
acousticalweaponsdivision (23:25:27): haha
mrbisto (23:25:42): hehe
x016178 (23:25:5Cool: Hey chris, still can't ind the mews. I see To spirt back the mews. What album did they record..when?
mrbisto (23:26:0Cool: Instinct has it going on.. he got that "dig it" thing
x016178 (23:27:01): I also wanted to mention, I liked your chorus on the intro track instinct. Did you just double your voice or us a technique?
(23:27:49): skip_491 has joined the conference.
instinct27651982 (23:27:55): oh, thats not me on that track, its my homie travisty but yeah, thats like 4 overdubs there
skip_491 (23:28:06): hi i fell asleep lol
instinct27651982 (23:28:17): plus
instinct27651982 (23:28:27): a waves plugin..
instinct27651982 (23:28:34): cant remember the name...hold up
(23:29:06): skip_491 has left the conference.
instinct27651982 (23:29:15): i believe it was an ultrapitch
x016178 (23:29:55): Were you trying to adjust the pitch so you were singing a chord?
(23:30:03): skip_491 has joined the conference.
instinct27651982 (23:30:2Cool: no, it added some deep harmony voices so it sounds more full..thats it
mrbisto (23:31:40): brent: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005KFUM/026-8264670-1842035 (mews)
x016178 (23:32:09): Been reading an interesting book. The art of digital music..56 artists and insders reveal their secrets. and found it interesting that BT wa giving props to Britney spears because she didn't have to use auto-tune to get the pitch right.
mrbisto (23:32:54): She didn't?
instinct27651982 (23:33:04): congradulations britney!! u still cant sing
skip_491 (23:33:07): whats auto tune?
x016178 (23:33:11): haha
skip_491 (23:33:17): lol instinct
x016178 (23:33:51): http://www.antarestech.com/products/auto-tune4.html
acousticalweaponsdivision (23:33:5Cool: what singers use to cheat
x016178 (23:34:22): I guess its useful if you want to transpose an artist talent.
mrbisto (23:34:31): well...
mrbisto (23:34:41): even more useful than that..
mrbisto (23:34:52): just an odd note here and there is handy
x016178 (23:35:32): What do you mean chris?
mrbisto (23:36:06): I mean if you have recorded "mews" or "Britney"
mrbisto (23:36:12): and you have comped....
mrbisto (23:36:17): you know comping right?
x016178 (23:36:37): Just to set the record, I don't like Britney. But the book does raise an interesting point.
x016178 (23:36:45): She may not like her music either.
mrbisto (23:36:54): makes no difference, but we think are a better person for that brent hehhe
mrbisto (23:37:01): anyway
acousticalweaponsdivision (23:37:01): yeah yeah we know you are a secret fan
x016178 (23:37:05): But she's hired as voice talent and it ultimately lies in the producer who says, Britney, will you do nasal?
x016178 (23:37:15): no no I'm not!
mrbisto (23:37:19): are 2
x016178 (23:37:20): Help
mrbisto (23:37:31): oh baby baby how was i supposed to know
mrbisto (23:37:39): brent got me started..
x016178 (23:37:45): lol
acousticalweaponsdivision (23:37:49): haha
mrbisto (23:37:5Cool: anyway
skip_491 (23:38:04): comp =compressor?
mrbisto (23:38:05): so we record her.....
mrbisto (23:38:12): and we comp her vocals
mrbisto (23:38:13): no...
mrbisto (23:38:15): comping....
mrbisto (23:38:20): anyone know what that is?
x016178 (23:38:39): Create a composite... a rough draft?
mrbisto (23:38:46): yessss...
instinct27651982 (23:38:51): compiling one final vocal track from several recorded.. like taking the best parts from each
mrbisto (23:39:02): we record say, or I don;t know 10 different versions....
mrbisto (23:39:06): (often many more)
mrbisto (23:39:14): of her vocals takes...
mrbisto (23:39:31): so we have like say, 15 vocal takes of her... possible on virtual tracks....
mrbisto (23:39:33): ok?
mrbisto (23:39:43): singing the same thing
x016178 (23:39:4Cool: So when your splicing, you just take a phrase normally? Or a 2 second sound byte?
mrbisto (23:40:09): ok.. we create a chart
mrbisto (23:40:20): in the studio we have a chart of all the words.... line by line
mrbisto (23:40:4Cool: and next to each line we hav boxes for each take... 1-14 or whatever
mrbisto (23:41:09): we then scale each of the 14 takes and enter that in the box...
mrbisto (23:41:13): this works out like
skip_491 (23:41:30): scale?
mrbisto (23:41:34): take 5, second line, in second verse, 5 points..
mrbisto (23:41:53): take 6, second line, in second verse, 4 points
mrbisto (23:41:57): etc....
mrbisto (23:42:29): are you with me here?
acousticalweaponsdivision (23:42:40): right, so using kind of the best bits of each to make up the whole vocal track?
mrbisto (23:42:47): exactly
mrbisto (23:42:59): that is comping
mrbisto (23:43:21): Brent you got this?
x016178 (23:43:32): yes.
mrbisto (23:43:35): good
mrbisto (23:43:37): now..
skip_491 (23:43:39): wahts pts?
mrbisto (23:43:39): after this
skip_491 (23:43:53): points
mrbisto (23:43:57): lets say we have edited now and created this final version form the 14 takes.....
mrbisto (23:44:2Cool: and we chose take 7 for the start of the bridge cause it was a better delivery, although not quite in tune....
mrbisto (23:44:5Cool: that's when we can use an auto-tune, just to tweak one note..
mrbisto (23:45:4Cool: with me?
x016178 (23:45:51): So you wouldn't ever just cut and paste a word from take 4 onto take 7 typically.
x016178 (23:45:59): You'd just transpose one part digitally.
mrbisto (23:45:59): Brent.. yes.... .
mrbisto (23:46:00): BUT
mrbisto (23:46:30): if take 7 was a better deliverty, i.e. she sang it with more "beef" or more negery" or more "sensitivity"... then no..
mrbisto (23:46:39): I'd grab the emotive content and "tweak it"
mrbisto (23:46:42): you know?
x016178 (23:46:47): yeah.
mrbisto (23:46:59): and that's that lol
x016178 (23:47:16): That's much clearer! Thanks!
mrbisto (23:47:20): it's all in the emotion
mrbisto (23:47:22):
mrbisto (23:47:2Cool: the musical message
mrbisto (23:47:41): not the plug-in
mrbisto (23:47:43): hehe
mrbisto (23:48:03): So we work towards getting that message out there....
x016178 (23:48:03): Reactor and Absynth. Now thats emotion. But no, I get what you mean!
skip_491 (23:48:04): what do you mean by scaling?
mrbisto (23:48:16): Skip, using a sytem of scoring
skip_491 (23:48:1Cool: after your takes
mrbisto (23:48:26): A way of categorising each take
mrbisto (23:48:34): 1 bad...
mrbisto (23:48:39): 5 excellent
mrbisto (23:48:43): 3, not too bad
x016178 (23:48:51): Britney... bad
skip_491 (23:48:59): that was the points then huh
instinct27651982 (23:49:14): hahahaha
mrbisto (23:49:41): I'm lost
mrbisto (23:49:45): where am I?
instinct27651982 (23:49:59): its ur conference man
mrbisto (23:50:03): Seriously though
mrbisto (23:50:0Cool: Comping is ace...
mrbisto (23:50:22): I got a practical for you guys, that IF done well.....
mrbisto (23:50:25): requires comping
acousticalweaponsdivision (23:50:54): cool, do we get to sing like britney?
acousticalweaponsdivision (23:51:01): hehe
mrbisto (23:51:05): Go for it....
acousticalweaponsdivision (23:51:27): i'm already dressed like britney
mrbisto (23:51:32): realy?
mrbisto (23:51:36): well hey!!
mrbisto (23:51:39): How you doin...?
x016178 (23:51:45): lol
skip_491 (23:51:49): lol
acousticalweaponsdivision (23:52:06): haha my beard kind of spoils the effect though
mrbisto (23:52:13): oh man...
x016178 (23:52:22): I had a good image there for a second.
mrbisto (23:52:25): Beer n pizza instead then
skip_491 (23:52:3Cool: lol
mrbisto (23:53:43): So I'll set this practical u this week, I guess..
mrbisto (23:53:49): It's a tough one though
mrbisto (23:53:55): needs a lot of work
mrbisto (23:54:20): not only does it need vocal comping.....
mrbisto (23:54:25): (there are three versions)
mrbisto (23:54:33): it also needs drum replacement
skip_491 (23:54:4Cool: oh my over time this week lol
x016178 (23:55:02): no side chaining I hope.
mrbisto (23:55:1Cool: It's a toughy.... you should give it a go too instinct...
mrbisto (23:55:30): Pop/rock band..
mrbisto (23:55:34): 24 tracker
x016178 (23:55:47): Instinct, do you sample your drums or use a sequencer?
x016178 (23:56:06): I learned alot on that last mixing project Chris so up for it.
instinct27651982 (23:56:33): aight chris.. where can i get it from? Brent, i usually trigger my drums from my Akai sampler and sequence in nuendo..
mrbisto (23:56:39): And you skip.... you should too
mrbisto (23:57:05): Instinct I'll let you know where it is.. and skip... I'd love to hear what you guys can make from it...
mrbisto (23:57:1Cool: It's a good pop song.. a young teenage band..
skip_491 (23:57:25): just trying to get the equipment back up and running but would love to give it a try
instinct27651982 (23:57:32): aight, drum replacement eh.. hmm. so i gotta go get that drum agog thing again?
mrbisto (23:57:33): but needs a ton of work
mrbisto (23:57:49): drumagog or VST drum trigger (free)
instinct27651982 (23:57:57): i never got it to work last time..
mrbisto (23:58:10): which?
instinct27651982 (23:58:24): but that was before i upgraded nuendo so maybe it'll work this time.. i think it was drumagog
instinct27651982 (23:58:55): can u post a link to where i can get the VST drum trigger?
mrbisto (23:59:01): That drumagog should do it real easy.. the VST is tricky though, but so much more flexible for tweaking the rhythm in MIDI
mrbisto (23:59:36): http://www.audiocourses.com/article339.html
instinct27651982 (23:59:41): i just want it to record the midi and i'll replace using my sampler..which one is easiest for that?

mrbisto (00:00:12): use whatever you are comfy with
mrbisto (00:00:21): I used.. hmmm Sample Tank... i think
instinct27651982 (00:00:57): nah, i mean which one of the two plugins is easiest to just have record midi notes?
mrbisto (00:01:36): KT is here: http://www.koen.smartelectronix.com/KTDrumTrigger/
mrbisto (00:01:4Cool: instinct KT probably
instinct27651982 (00:02:1Cool: ok.. thanks man
skip_491 (00:02:31): yah thanks
mrbisto (00:02:33): Drumagog is more plug n play.. like FM radio....
mrbisto (00:02:46): KT drum trigger is more "geeky" lol
skip_491 (00:03:00): do you have a link to drumagog?
mrbisto (00:03:11): www.drumagog.com i think
instinct27651982 (00:03:1Cool: geeky u say.. i can work with that
mrbisto (00:03:29): indeed.... tweakability
skip_491 (00:03:42): wow thats great
mrbisto (00:04:21): Yeah both are great tools, which are very usefulllll
mrbisto (00:04:42): FACT: most commerical track utlise some for of drum replacement
mrbisto (00:05:02): typically snare and kick
skip_491 (00:05:12): so in other words nuffin you hear is really real
skip_491 (00:05:20): its all played up
mrbisto (00:05:21): The old way was to stick a MIDI trigger right on the drums during recording phase
mrbisto (00:05:57): and then play back whatever smaple you want... now we have software examples.. which emulate the same concept
instinct27651982 (00:06:29): check the example at the bottom of the KT drum trigger webpage
instinct27651982 (00:06:36): the picture
instinct27651982 (00:06:40): hehe
mrbisto (00:07:09): nice
skip_491 (00:07:1Cool: koool you wrote that hehehehe
mrbisto (00:07:22): "An empty shoe box with a mouse mat on top (use the backside of the mat to get a muffled sound)."
skip_491 (00:08:0Cool: what you talkin bout
mrbisto (00:08:13): lol
skip_491 (00:08:13): put ur mic in the box?
mrbisto (00:08:21): no the point is......
mrbisto (00:08:34): you can play the drums on come old toilet seat if you wish
reynola31 (00:08:3Cool: hey all i have to go now...see u all next week... bye!!!!
mrbisto (00:08:42): you just record the MID info
(00:08:49): reynola31 has left the conference.
skip_491 (00:08:50): nite rey
mrbisto (00:08:50): they assign it to a sampled drum sound
x016178 (00:09:24): getting to capture the drum rolls when you're hitting two notes at the same time might be a little problem I suspect.
mrbisto (00:09:57): I guess unless two different sounds.... with the same sample assigned?
mrbisto (00:10:4Cool: Well guys I better split....
mrbisto (00:10:53): Gotta get some ice for my knees
x016178 (00:11:03): its been great. You guys have a great week!
skip_491 (00:11:0Cool: too much skiing or soccer lol
mrbisto (00:11:16): Rugby
skip_491 (00:11:16): nite everyone
mrbisto (00:11:23): man... hard day!
x016178 (00:11:32): ciao!
(00:11:34): x016178 has left the conference.
acousticalweaponsdivision (00:11:35): bye everyone
instinct27651982 (00:11:37): bye
skip_491 (00:11:3Cool: lol took your beating today did ya
(00:11:45): acousticalweaponsdivision has left the conference.
mrbisto (00:11:46): skip, kinda hehe
mrbisto (00:11:47): see ya
