| Noise Gates Hardware or Software |

Hardware noise gates used to be tricky to set up, especially if there was no frequency selective dial, perhaps software versions are easier. However it seems more and more engineers are simpy using the cut tool to chop out noise and tailor each audio segment.

I use a noise gate and compressor on the kick drum (alesis 3630)
I basically use the meters, just monitor the channel on cans then bring up the gate threshold until it opens when the drum is hit and closes straight after, then i just tweak the attack time until i get the sound i want. _________________ If In Doubt...Hit It With a Hammer, If Still In Doubt... Yes I think that's fairly standard in live sound, do you get into any recording though and noise gate useage?
That's basically what I was referring to, you know the digital editing concept, where you are really tuned into the waveform on a screen vs they method you mention. _________________ It's all in the ears. - Learn the concepts not the software.

well i multitrack the kick post compressor, in digital form i prefer to work by the numbers and "virtual dials" rather that the graph, using the same method, the lack of a meter in most compressor/gate plug ins is a pain _________________ If In Doubt...Hit It With a Hammer, If Still In Doubt...
