Recommend Microphone  Reply with quote

Was wondering if you lovely people good recommend me a microphone. I am going to purchase possible a condesnor mic. I do light home reccording. I currently have just a rode NT-1A that i am using to record acoustic and vocals at the momet. Thats the only thing im recording. I would liek to experiment with some stereo recording on my acoustic. So could anyone recommend a microphone for acoustic guitar that is around £100-200 price mark?

Cheers

SE Electronics SE3  Reply with quote

I have an SE electronics SE3, which goes for about £120. you can buy from Digital Village . I recently used this to record an electric guitar, (Gibson Les Paul through Fender Blues Deville) and for a cheap mic, it sound fantastic, really raunchy sound. it shows the sort of charecteristics that would make it nice on acoustic guitar, although i havent tried it yet. definately one for your shortlist. It also comes in a case, with quite a nice shockmount.

Also look at Rode NT3, or in large diaphragm terms, there the NT2A, or the red5 RV8 looks nice.

I believe Chris likes the MXL mics? any good for acoustic?

Happy Hunting

Shure KSM 109  Reply with quote

I have been very pleased wtih results I have had with Shure KSM 109. Very quiet, and versatile microphone. Also has pad, for when you want to point it at something really loud. Runs for around 150 pounds I believe. If you already have a large diaphragm condenser like the NT1a you really need to have at least one small diaphragm consenser as well. It is probably a bit more focused than the NT1a, which will be of use as well. By the way, very very durable.

Thanks for the recommondations. I checked out those SE mics, and the reviews appear to be good. So I think I am goign for the SE3a.
