| RMS vs Avg. value |

Why is the RMS value preferable? Why can't the average value be used instead? |

RMS stands for Root Mean Square and more closely represents the power handling of a speaker in real life use than the average value.
Remember RMS is NOT the same as the average!
In very simple terms, it is 0.707 of the peak voltage/power. (In a Sine wave, which is the form in which power enters a speaker driver)
See this link for more detailed, but still simple info

That link also cover PMPO, or Peak Music Power, which you are likely to come across, mainly in consumer or pro-sumer gear. Enjoy!

Thanks wailing but that dint exactly answer my question.
Well, I found the answer myself. The RMS value is preferred because it's a close approximation of the human ear design. |

RMS is actually preferred as it defines what is known as the "raw heating" power of an amplifer. _________________ It's all in the ears. - Learn the concepts not the software.
