| More girls choose school trousers |
|

For the first time school trousers for girls have outsold skirts, according to one of the biggest sellers of school uniform in the UK.
They revealed that sales of school skirts have dropped a massive 51% in the last three years. _________________ It's all in the ears. - Learn the concepts not the software.

You know the funny thing about that is that for the most part, in the states we don't have school uniforms (except in some private schools, and very few of those, and some very poor inner-city schools where gangs are a problem).
Do you think that uniforms have an advantage over just picking out what you want to wear to school? _________________ Kindest Regards,

I'm not sure really, every school I went to (UK) had a uniform policy so it was just "normal" everybody just got on with it and didn't question it.
We join a football team and have to wear a uniform, we join the police we have to wear a uniform, we join a white collar company we have to sticka tie on, if kids in school can choose their clothes, they'll choose what everyone else their age, or their social niche, is wearing, people like to be "in" the club.
I guess a school uniform gives a certain "power" to the establishment, nothing wrong with that, did me no harm at all.

| included into your school |

I was thinking that it could be a very positive thing because by dress you are essentially included into your school. Obviously you still have to flight the cliques, but, at least you are identified by dress as belonging. I have company shirts that I am supposed to wear, I confess I am not always vigilant in doing so. I guess because I never had to, it is hard to get used to the idea sometimes. Or, other times, I am coming from somewhere else, and my company polo shirt just didn't match the function I was attending. I am sure there a probably a million and one studies on the effects of uniforms. If we don't express our individuality in how we dress, I suppose we are more than the clothes we wear, or at least we should be eh? _________________ Kindest Regards,

I enjoyed your last point:

And I guess we are, well of course we are, however, in a company we are a pawn in the game, we are paid to be a part of a well oiled machine and we have a job description. The same can be said of school, we are sent to school not so much to learn maths or english but as much as anything to learn how to get along in society and with other people.
Society is about getting on with people about "fitting in", I feel.
This is also true in a recording studio, sure creativity and independance are cherished, but imagine being a runner, or newbie in the studio with a tie on... wouldn't work at all these days. Would it? _________________ It's all in the ears. - Learn the concepts not the software.
